Hi all,

We went to the clinic and picked Molly up this afternoon. She is eating and behaving like her normal self. The vet says she is actually seeing, though not normally--yet. Time will tell if she regains all her sight. Meantime, she is on non-steroid painkillers for the next two days then off them to see what happens.

She went back into her pen and stall and didn't run into anything. Went through the stall door a couple times and out without problems so she sees well enough to get by.

The vet still doesn't have a firm cause but says she is recovering faster than she would if it was a disease process so she's pretty confident it was a trauma induced neurosis of the optic nerve caused by banging her poll really hard. She had consulted a specialist in Denver and they concluded that that is most likely the cause.

So, the outcome is much brighter than I thought it would be and am relieved for the time being. I wish to thank all of you for all your kind and concerned comments and supporting me during this ordeal. You are the greatest group ever!!

Thanks again! --Bonnie

Well this is good news. Prayers still coming. Watch her tummy wth all the meds. Some nice plain yogurt would be good, or some probios.

Just logged on to bump this up to check on your mare. So glad to hear she is doing better. Sounds like she'll be okay. Will be thinking about you. Good luck.

That is great news! Glad to hear she is home.

I have been thinking about the two of you all day. I am so glad that everything looks better. I will keep praying.

HI Bonnie!

Just going to throw this one atcha:

Do you remember my old pony, Frosty?

Well one day about some 15 odd years ago, he was playing in the pasture with his best buddy Tory, and Tory accidentally kicked him in the head.

Frosty lost his sight and went into some horrible seizures, then acted like he had a stroke, all this within like a 30 minute period. I 911'd the vet who was already on the interstate heading my way and he told me to get some bute down him some how immediately if at all possible and we did.

We treated him with more bute, banamine and who knows what now I can't remember but the very next day, Frosty was recovered like nothing happened.

Head trauma seems like it would make sense to me in your case too. I always like it when things make sense. Just think if this were a person, it would take some serious time to heal and get back on track, so an over night recovery is surely progress made! Cheers for your vet!

Anyhow I am very happy that Molly seems to be responding so good to her treatment. You did the right thing by not wasting any time. I am just so happy for you. You were always such a good mommy Bonnie.

So now that we have you back, please do stay and enjoy the holidays with us!

Hi Bonnie,

That is wonderful news! Thanks for the update, I have been thinking about her.

That is great news. I'll be praying she continues to get her eyesight back.

Hello everybody again!

So far, so good. She is pretty much back to her normal self as far as I can tell. She is eating well and acting up when I try to give her medicine, which is very normal for her. I can't tell that she has any trouble seeing. I don't know how much she sees but she doesn't show any signs of not being able to see just fine. One more day of meds and we'll see after that but things are looking up! Thanks! --Bonnie

Thats fantastic news! Blindness can be lived with, but life for her will be oh so much better if she can see afterall! Glad she is feeling better, and hope her recovery stays on track after the meds are done.
