Do people actual feed this for main feed? I am just top dressing..

I use it in my mix, with western oats and minerals. But you dont have to feed anthing else with it. You just have to feed smaller portions. Also my insulin resistant mare getsit because it is low in starch. I give my babies some also with the mix just so they have higher protein than the growen horses. You can also give your nursing mares extra also. My horses do not look as good on other feeds also it is good for coats. I feed this to my big horses also.

I use it as is. There's no need to add anything else; it has everything they need in it. The most I'll add is a bit of beet pulp during the cold of winter (just for added roughage).

I wanted to say I bought the newly packaged Gro N Win today and the back included miniatures in the feeding directions!
Just curious, how much do they say to feed the minis?

I use this feed also and his coat has never looked better! He gets 1/2 a yogurt container (single serve) am and pm with some grass hay am and pm and pangola hay for lunch. He also gets turned out about an hour in the am and sometimes in the pm (weather permitting).

So, it is his "grain" - not a top dressing

We used to feed it in Ky., but the places that handled it were inconsistent. This week they would have it, next not, and one totally quit handling it. We had to stop feeding it because they did like to eat regularly. We were very happy with it, made the horses look good, no bellies, and on top of all that, they liked it! You could feed all the hay you wanted with it. It is expensive, but because of the low amount you feed, lasts as long or longer than a regular bag of feed. We, when we could find it, really liked the way the horses looked and acted with it. Since moving here, no one seems to have ever heard of it.

I'm a buckeye fan

I think the biggest problem miniature horse people have is that they come from feeding gallons of sweet feed over to gro n win and when they hear people say 'only feed this tiny amount' they kind of say 'are you trying to make me start my horse???'. Well keep in mind grain is only there for nutrional purpose, not to fullfill their hungry stomach lol.

Buckeye costs me $21/bag but that stuff last me soooo much longer them the $7 bags of sweetfeed from TSC so its a much better investment. I call it 'health food' for horses. Dont you feel better after eating chicken salad or a big mac? Not only do they feel better, they look better. Feeling better results in a better performance.

I feed it as my main grain, to show horses only. I have the Buckeye measuring cup ..when filled to the top = 1/2lb of buckeye. My adults get 1/2 that cup (1/4th pound) am/pm. My yearling/weanlings get 1/2 lb am/pm untill they are two years old and then they get what the others get.

I mix mine with Beet Pulp mixed in, prob about 1/2 cup of beet pulp am/pm.

I was told not to add suppliments to it, its so good you dont need anything else added. Of course, you can add oats but i know few people who do. I add beet pulp bc it gets extra water into them and it keeps them filled out really well.

Its like 32% protein and i NEVER had a problem w/ a horse getting fat. You dont feed gallons of it like sweet feed. Less is more in this case

It can be used as a top dressing but that is not how it is really intended to be used.

It's not a feed or grain. It is a combination of vitamins and minerals in a protein base.

The beauty of the ration balancers are that they are designed to feed with good quality hay and/or grass; nothing else required except a white salt block and you don't need much of it.

I use the Puriana version Born to Win ($17.50 a bag)

I feed my entire herd on one bag per week.

Most of mine get 1 cup, twice a day.

Now, for those horses that "have a job" (lactating mares, growing babies or horses, in training, breeding stallions etc. ) those horses may need some extra calories. So for that, I add either oats or Omelene 200.

They may require 1 1/2 cups plus 1 1/2 cups of omelene or oats with it

But for the gang that is just haning out doing nothing, they survive beautifull on the ration balancer alone with forrage. It's amazing how I used to panic and complain of the obecity around here and now, every one of my horses look incredibly fit, no bellies, great toplines. All thanks to being a student of Robin C!
