Well as usual, we went overboard again. We decided not to get a Cane Corso pup, so instead we got two. We went to look at another litter, and to speak to another breeder about the breed, and Jerry fell in love with a black female. Well, I thought she was cute, but I really liked the blue brindle male. He is big and lumbering, and so affectionate and quiet. So, we got them both. Her name is Bella and his is Ben. He lumbers around and is so gentle that he reminds us of Gentle Ben on the old TV program. He is such a gentleman. She on the other hand is a typical female. Always busy and into everything. Wants to be the first to get wherever, and then the first to leave wherever. When we took them to the vet for shots, neither even whimpered, laid on the table and just trusted us all. The first breeder said they were aggressive and had his Cane Corsos for hunting deer and attack dogs. This gentleman had young children, and he bred and trained his dogs for watch dogs and family pets. From all I've read on the computer, they were companions to the Roman soldiers, and farm dogs in general.
They are Italian Mastiffs. Ours are just puppies, but so far love all the animals we have here, and they are friendly with everyone, especially kids. Does anyone on the forum have any experience or knowledge of the breed? I would appreciate all and any information you may have. Oh, by the way, they are an ancient breed, but are not recognized by AKC due to the problem they were nearly extinct in 1988. The AKC will recognize them in the 2006 working dog trials though, and when they finaly recognize them as a breed, will register AKC all dogs that are registered in their own registry at that time.
