Well as usual, we went overboard again. We decided not to get a Cane Corso pup, so instead we got two. We went to look at another litter, and to speak to another breeder about the breed, and Jerry fell in love with a black female. Well, I thought she was cute, but I really liked the blue brindle male. He is big and lumbering, and so affectionate and quiet. So, we got them both. Her name is Bella and his is Ben. He lumbers around and is so gentle that he reminds us of Gentle Ben on the old TV program. He is such a gentleman. She on the other hand is a typical female. Always busy and into everything. Wants to be the first to get wherever, and then the first to leave wherever. When we took them to the vet for shots, neither even whimpered, laid on the table and just trusted us all. The first breeder said they were aggressive and had his Cane Corsos for hunting deer and attack dogs. This gentleman had young children, and he bred and trained his dogs for watch dogs and family pets. From all I've read on the computer, they were companions to the Roman soldiers, and farm dogs in general.

They are Italian Mastiffs. Ours are just puppies, but so far love all the animals we have here, and they are friendly with everyone, especially kids. Does anyone on the forum have any experience or knowledge of the breed? I would appreciate all and any information you may have. Oh, by the way, they are an ancient breed, but are not recognized by AKC due to the problem they were nearly extinct in 1988. The AKC will recognize them in the 2006 working dog trials though, and when they finaly recognize them as a breed, will register AKC all dogs that are registered in their own registry at that time.

Yes we got our first Cane Corso puppy back in June. I can't say enough good things about this breed of dog.....as I am quickly falling in love with them. Needless to say our little girl, Lakota has us wrapped around her little (big) paw.

You did'nt say how old your puppies were...and as Lyn mentioned please post pics!!!!

Since before and after we got Lakota I've done alot of reading up on the breed. Very interesting history. One thing I would like to emphasize is socialize, socialize, socialize your puppies!!!! Constantly keep them going. We've had Lakota in classes since she was a few weeks old starting with Puppy Headstart. It gets their social skills going and altho they have playmates (like yours) at home to play with they learn to interact with other dogs and people. They can have a reserved/aloof personality, but they should guard instincively without agression.

My little girl is 8 months old and is weighing in at 94 lbs. already!

She eats more than my minis!!!

Here's "little" Lakota.....she is a Blue.

Sterling, she is a darling! My Ben is a tubby color. He is a blue brindle. He looks more beige with darker stripes than blue. with a dark mask. So glad you didn't have her ears docked. We debated it but decided not to after hearing how painful it is for them, and how easy it is to make mistakes on them. Our babies were born Aug. 26th. Bella weighs about 18 pounds, and Big Ben weighs 21 lbs. That was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. We are socializing them as much as we can. They (so far) seem to love everyone and yes they are a tiny bit reserved with a few people. I was so afraid they would turn out mean and vicious after talking to the first breeder even though we did do some research on the net before looking at the first litter.

Hi, Congradulations on your new babies! Pictures? Lots of Pictres

I have an English mastiff and my offering to you along with sterlings(socialization) is obedience. There going to be big

and you need to have good control. My guy is 18 months and we have been at it since he was 14 weeks old- they mature later than the smaller breeds and need to make sure the obedience foundation is good and solid. Pictures would be great!

Up until a few weeks back my personal knowledge of the breed was from watching Sterlings pups progress. Now I have one in my puppy class- actually she and Barney the St Bernard could be a class on their own. Socialisation- this bitch was showing a bit of aggression at five months- basic obedience and LOVE- just the same as a Jack Russel or a Pekinese. Except that, of course if you want a Peke off the bed you just pick it up.........................

I will post as soon as I set up a photobucket acct. again, and then figure out how to put them on the forum again. I have a mental block on doing that! After the move, had to get a new computer and a new ISP and I just haven't sat down and done all the things I need to.
