I also got my 2 minis from a rescue, who allegedly got them from an auction that sells to slaughter houses. I have no idea what the true story about how these rescues get their animals, but it can't be good. I visited this particular foundation for about 7 months before being "matched" to the 2 that I ended up "adopting." I saw many animals come in and some of their conditions were very sad. They were sickly, underfed/overfed, untouched by humans and most had hoof issues. As much as I wanted to get a couple of minis, it was very hard to visit, week after week seeing some of these animals. As far as it being cheaper to adopt them, I don't think in my area, that's necessarily true, but I don't know. I paid around $4 K for both, which I think is more than I would have paid for a couple of minis with pleasant, verifiable histories and better confirmation. It's all good though, I love them both and they deserve to be owned by someone who will take proper care of them.
