I had a German Shepherd that had surgery on her pit. glands at the age of ten. This was done by a Cancer Clinic in Mississauga that treated dogs and cats. Because of her age I opted out of further treatment. She died at the age of 15 of colic!!!!

During the time between 10 and her death she did have a problem getting up on her hind legs (0 grade hip) and another vet gave her a Quartazone (sp) shot. This was a miracle worker for her. She was not only able to get up by herself but she also fetched ball again. She got this shot 3 times I believe. She was my best friend.

Currently I own a cross Bordie Collie/Springer that will be 17 yrs old on the 22nd of this month. I have put her on aspirin (coated and low dosage) for over a year now and swear that if it wasn't for the aspirin she would be dead now. She's still stiff but is able to fetch a ball within a few feet. She climbs stairs slowly but she's still doing it.

She asks to go out and only piddles if nobody pays attention to her polite request.

Given her age and condition, if aspirin is making her feel less pain and she still has the look of life in her eyes, it's what I'll keep giving her.

If my friend (dog) was younger than perhaps I would look into other options. I only hope that she goes silently and painlessly when she is ready to join her friends forever.
