I am one class away from having my BS. I am already way in debt, almost at my loan limit for undergrad level, which is sad since the first 2 year were paid for. It racked up over the years when I took out extra to help us get by when needed. I really want to get my Masters degree, however at this point I dont see it as being an option. By the time I would be done I would be just over 100,000 in debit. There is no way I could get that paid off, I would be working just to pay my loans.

Im stuck and frusterated. I want to continue on, but dont see it as an option. Part of the issue stems from the fact that I dont have a job at this time and finding one hasnt been easy. That said the job world hasnt been so steady in the last two years and until the lawsuit over the last job is settled the job market for me isnt going to be easy.

I'm 35, have always worked full time and usually some extra part time jobs until I had my daugher, and still paying off my Bachelors. While I'd definitely consider getting more schooling if it was free, it's not worth it to me financially to add more debt to my life. I HATE being in debt more than I'd love to learn more:). I feel your pain!

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have gone to college. Still paying for it and will be for a long time. I have a BS in Agricultural Economics and work as an office manager/bookkeeper for a grain elevator/cotton gin. A job which I could have done without a degree.

That said if you want to go into a profession that needs a degree, like teaching, doctors, lawyers, then yeah going to school would be worth it.

My opinion... unless you have to have the degree to get the job, then bypass your masters and save that money.

The degree I have, long story short, unless I win my lawsuit is worthless. I cant get a job in the field. That said I am not sure what to do my Masters in, so far in the running is a therapist or a lawyer

In the current economic climate education has a very high value. That said I would recommend looking for an entry level position at a company that has a plan that pays part or all of future educational expenses. First though you need to decide what career is going to keep you happy and inspired for the next 40 yrs!! All the education in the world will not make for a succesful future if it does not give you the opportunity to find a job that excites, challenges and motivates you!

an prospective employer told me that with at least 30 people (usually way more) applying for one job a college degree makes a huge difference. He told me that even if the degree has nothing to do with the job it shows an employer committment and drive and that puts those people higher on the list given that other things are equal.
