I had the vet come out and geld J R (registered name Jailhouse Rockin In Memphis) earlier this week. He will be two years old April 4. I hope this turns him into "Gentleman J". He seems to be chilling out already as far as manners to me.

The weather has been good for it too! Glad everything went well!

What does your vet charge up there if I may ask Vicki? I have an 8 mos. old I'm contemplating .... was wondering what 70 miles or so does for prices ....

I don't mind you asking at all. It was $40 for a farm call and $90 for the procedure. I had recently given his tetanus; otherwise that would have been an added cost. I like the fact that he would come over. My "other" vet would have done it but it would have cost more and he is not so "mobile." This particular vet does not even have a staff and you can go to his place or he will come to yours. He is over in Genoa, Ar so really not so far from you anyway. I liked having him come here so that I did not have to trailer. J R was in the stallion pen when he woke up. Staggered around like a drunken sailor for a while but he has adjusted very well and is already acting "nicer."

I am leasing my stallion out to breed 2 mares this summer. Well, actually starting next month. When the mares are settled she is supposed to return him GELDED. I really hope he doesn't calm down any more than he already is. If he does he will be comatose. Right now he lives with 3 mares and no foals are expected. I hope gelding doesn't change him like so many say it changes them.

I had a yearling gelded a few years ago and his attitude didn't change a bit. Had one before, still had it after! It wasn't a stallion type attitude anyway ... his personality never changed. My stallion now is as layed back as they come, easy to handle, shows his stuff when he needs to ... other than that, you would never know he had any testicles between his legs!

I think it's two seperate things and you have to look at what you are seeing before the surgery is done. Is it personality or testosterone driven? JMO
