Well I'm going on a road trip in late September into October, and I already have several things planned. But you all know your areas way better than I do obviously! So if there is something that is an absolute "MUST SEE" please let me know.

I could look online and through travel books all day, but I can't do it all. I only have 3 weeks to be gone, only so many hours in a day you know

So heres a list of the states I'm going through, in the rough planning stage anyway. I'm also open to taking scenic byways instead of major highways, or state highways instead of major interstates. So if you know of a route that's pretty and fun to take, let me know.

Oklahoma

Arkansas

Tennessee

Virginia

West Virginia

Pennsylvania

New York

Vermont

New Hampshire

Massachusetts, possible

Connecticut, possible

Ohio

Indiana

Illinois

possibly.........

Wyoming

Nebraska

South Dakota

Iowa

Missouri

Kansas

PA has a lot of really pretty scenic route alternatives to highways, especially Rt 30, if your taking that. I'm not sure of the names of the roads or anything but I hope some other people on here know because they are really pretty.

Not sure what type of things you plan to do on the way but there are many cool things to do in PA. Lancaster has some great outlet stores. You can view them on the web at Tanger Outlets . Speaking of Lancaster (which is where I live by the way :bgrin ), there are many tourist attractions realted to the Amish, antiques, and quilting so if you like any of them be sure to visit some of the museums, shops, and farms. This website has some good input and ideas and all the information you'll need if your passing through Lancaster PA.

If you can, the city of Philadelphia is also a must see. There's a great zoo, tons of shopping, and a beautiful city! Same with Pittsburg, although I know very little about it's attractions.

Hope that helps!

Ditto about PA. My dad and stepmom live in West Chester, which is outside Philly, and near the Brandywine Creek. There are some great Civil War monuments in that region as well as the nearby Amish country, which is very memorable, and lots of interesting shopping/culture.

I am not the best authority on where you're headed, but if you make it out this way West, I have lots of great ideas! *LOL*

If you like all kinds of animals as in a zoo like. We visited this place a few years ago in Virginia. I can't remember what it is called, something like Virginia Wild Animal Park. It is right off of RT 81 which is a beautiful highway right through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The animal park is right by "Natural Bridge".

Anyhow, the park is a drive through park. You can buy buckets of animal food and are encouraged to feed the animals. They let you keep windows open, sliding van doors open, and if you have a pickup truck, you can sit in the bed of the truck. It is hysterical because the animals come up to mooch the food. You end up with animal heads stuck in your vehicle. Too funny!! I was sittin in the bed of the truck with our son and we had to duck when the Watusi cattle came by so we didn't get whacked in the head by their horns.

Lotto would like to see you again Linz!

: Me too! :aktion033:

Come to NH and visit mee!! We are right near the MA boarder.

But, for sightseeing....

You should go up to Northern NH where the White Mountains are. It is so beautiful there. You can climb Mt. Washington, or drive it, visit all the cute little shops, and go to some of the waterfalls.

You should visit Hampton, NH. It has a wonderful beach and an awesome boardwalk.

In Massachusetts Boston is a must. Rockport, Mass is a great place to shop and get salt water taffy.

Well you guys are just full of good ideas!!!

Don't worry Robin, you are going to get to deal with me for most of a day :bgrin

I will also now be going to Natural Bridge in VA and the Virginia Safari Park that Sharon mentioned.

And since Jessica mentioned Boston....I looked stuff up and decided I just have to go Whale Watching off the Massachusetts coast. :new_shocked:

Ok everyone keep it coming!!!

Colonial Williamsburg in VA is a nice area, further SE of Natural Bridge (about 150 miles) but, worth the trip. The historic area has restored homes, people in period clothing, doing period things, etc. There is Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens within only a half hour of Williamsburg. Hey, free sample at Busch! Oh, you can pet the clydesdales, too! Then, about 75 miles further and you are on the oceanfront at Virginia Beach. See the Navy bases, airfields, ships, etc....enjoy the beach. Lots of things to do in the area.

Along the Blue Ridge Parkway and into the Shenandoah Valley area you need to visit the restored/maintained home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello -- really interesting! There are several Civil War battlefields around there, too. Of course some are only that, "fields" with markers. But, others have more to offer.

I am assuming this is a "vacation" .... right???? So, any special interests? Maybe we could point you in those directions. How are you traveling? Need campsites, hotels?

Hey, want some brochures? I can send ya some from the tourist center...... for Virginia.

I'd just like to stow away in your car

: :bgrin Sounds like a wonderful trip. I haven't been that direction in many years, but I do remember wanting to unpack my bags - permanently - in the Smoky Mtn area, absolutely breathtaking country.

:saludando: Go see as many Mini folk as you can. This chance won't come often. Also catch Lookout mountain Tenn. See states at once.

Well, I've already warned you where I am is awful quiet and no real spectacles but I figger by the time you get to me you'll be ready for a front porch rest!

If you are up in NH or MA at the right time, you can not beat the foliage in the white mountains or the Berkshires, it is awesome. Check to see when the whale watches stop running, they end sept/oct but I love the whale watches. We always went out of Gloucster and had a great experiences everytime. We went once out of Boston, but it did not seem as fun to me. (Perhaps because I was with my soon to be ex boyfriend.) If you are into bird watching the Hawk migration out in western mass is spectacular to see, but have to be there at the right time.

I have ben to natural bridge in Va, it is really neat.

Oh, sometimes I miss being back East! Have fun, be safe.

What and New Jersey is not on your agenda?!!! JK........Sounds like you're gonna have a blast visiting all of those states. If you're in PA and enjoy historical sites Gettysburg is a nice place to visit. Civil War era all around you including places to eat that are authentic, and the waiters all dress in period dress. Even the food is Civil War era. Colonial Williamsburg in VA is nice too as is Harper's Ferry. AMish country in PA is awesome!!! So many things to see and visit...and if you do go out that way see if you can check out the carriage shops where they make the carts.....I visited there a couple of years ago and I sat there and drooled the whole time.

On a side note....we're also planning a roadtrip in and abouts October out west. Our plans are to visit certain parts of the state of OK to look at property and whats available. Also to visit some of the surrounding states on our way up there. Maybe we'll cross paths! :bgrin

Oh I was thinking of some things from here you'll need to take back to NM! New Hope Mills pancake mix and home made maple syrup, some pressed fall leaves, hickory nuts right off the tree.....

Sounds like such a fun trip....If you ever go through Washington State I will gladly help you with super places to visit

Ah yes!!! As Bcody mentioned.......Fall Leaves!!!! At that time of year, the extreme north parts of PA and southern NY, then right on up into New England will be prime for color. From abouot central PA and south will be too early, so you probably won't see any color through the Blue Ridge area. I visited Deb(dimimore) I believe right at the end of September a couple years back and her place was gorgeous with color!

Plus, (I hope Deb doesn't mind this)

: She is known to be a wonderful cook! Not only my hubby and I but other forum members now have gotten lucky enough to eat with her.

Well thanks Sharon! I love to cook especially for company. You and that sweet teddy bear hubby of yours shoud come back sometime.

Oh Yes I'm definitely looking forward to all the leaves!!! I'm a big time nature nut, so I can't wait :new_shocked:

And I've heard good things about Debs cooking, and She and I share a love of chile, so things should be interesting :bgrin

I am in Arkansas, and you are more than welcome to drop by if you are coming up my way. I will be in grad school this fall - but only an hour away from the house so can make it home no problem if you want to stop.

Trying to think of what to tell you to do, not sure what parts you are coming through.

In Mountian View http://www.ozarkgetaways.com/index.html(about 20 miles North of me) they have the Ozark Folk Center that always has stuff going on there http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/ Also in Mt. View is Blanchard Caverns which is a MUST see if you are up that way............if you have a day to spend and are up for it do the WILD CAVE TOUR, where you go down into the cave crawling, squeezing through stuff, lights on the head - so much fun, went a few years ago and trying to find someone to go with me again I went with a close horse show friend (my family are too chicken) http://www.ozarkgetaways.com/blanchard_springs_caverns.html Look at that link and the left side has the wild cave tour.

About 10 miles south of me is the Greers Ferry Lake http://www.greersferrylake.org/ It is a beautiful lake - lots to do

about 2hrs south of me is Hot Springs, AR - also a neat town, http://www.hotspringsar.com/ Here you can get a "old time" bath in the natural hot springs mineral water and a massage at Arlington Hotel ( I was a little iffy at first, but it was so relaxing ) http://www.arlingtonhotel.com/

There is much more.....but that was the things I could think off right now

If you're going from Missouri to Illinois (or vice versa) you'll probably notice the "Gateway to the West" (more commonly known as the St. Louis Arch). Quite unusual. If you're traveling I70 you'll be within about 30 miles of my house. Let me know if you come this way.

Also, the bluffs along the Missouri river are beautiful in the fall......if we just get some rain.
