Can anyone give me the names of authors who write good scary books, not including King and Koontz or any really good scary movies?

Amanda

I don't know who "wrote" the movie, but if you like scary type movies with a twist, The Others with Nicole Kidman is awesome.

I saw Red Dragon last year, I almost cried and I had my eyes covered nearly the whole movie it was so scary!

I haven't seen Red Dragon. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Amanda

Red Dragon was good. It is actually a prequel to Silence of the Lambs. The original movie was called Manhunter and started the guy from Vegas CSI (can't remember his name). Very interesting movie. The book is great too. The book Hannibal is good, the movie ends completely different than the book. I was a little disappointed in the movie ending.

I saw Hannibal the movie so I'll definetly havve to get the book as books are uaually always better than the movie

Go and rent THE OTHERS..... you dont realize how scary it is till the end! Then you have to watch it again to get the clues which are all there through the whole movie. I dont like gorey scary movies but this ohne I loved. Nicole Kidman is in it.

If you like to read try this one.

"Crooked Tree" by Robert C. Wilson

I recently watched "The Skeleton Key" with Kate Hudson, it was scary and really good.

A book, though kind of graphic "The Resort" by Bentley Little

Yup. This one was STUPID!

Flight Plan
Good movie but too easy to figure out who the bad guy is. As soon as he sat down I knew "who dunnit".

the village
Personally, I thought this one was pretty lame. Some folks liked it but ......nah!

When my oldest brother first saw the Exorcist, WAY back when it first came out...he didn't sleep for 3 nights. Scared the puddin' out of him. When I saw it about 8 years later, we laughed a LOT.

The Final Destinations get you jumping pretty good though. Lots of sudden things.

I guess I've seen most besides Red Eye and Flight Plan. Most of them to me are not scary, but more funny than anything. I do like the movie that's called Wrong Turn. It was pretty good. Has anyone seen Hostel?

Amanda

Movies - I'm a big fan of the classics - Night of the Living Dead, The Shining, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, original Halloween, Omen, Exorcist.

Newer movies - Pitch Black (the prequel to The Riddick Chronicles), Red Eye, Seven, House of 1000 Corpses (creepy). I know we recently saw another one that was good, but I can't think of the name!

As for books - I love Clive Barker (along with King and Koontz), Thomas Tyron's 'The Other' (it is a movie too, but the book is better). Poe is always good for classic scary.

Oh yeah......13 Ghosts got me pretty good. The thing in scary movies for me is when something shows up fast.

Ghosts of Mars was pretty dumb.

The Thing, with Kurt Russell, not bad.

American Werewolf in London......that one was good. Incredible special effects and the "dream in a dream" stuff......

Sorry I can't help you. I don't like King but love Koontz.

Movies that are scarey: Exorcist and all the Omens

Sorry guys, I didn't think "The Others" was scarey at all. In fact I was bored.

I'll try to give this some thought.

I just had to add

Saw 2

It was good. I watched through my fingers!

Devils Rejects

Another one I watched through my fingers! Abit gorry though

Wrong turn

Both better then I expected!

I love scary movies. I remember leaving the theater after seeing Seven and having the most horrable feeling. Great movie but I'll never forget that feeling!

Leya

also had to add I'm reading Cell by Stephen King and I LOVE IT!

Well... for an older movie that scared the crap out of me when I saw it on TV as a kid.... :new_shocked:

The Haunting... not the recent version - but the original one.... black & white from 1963.

Here is the IMDB listing for it ... The Haunting

I agree Tag! That was my favorite scary movie as a kid. The new one doesn't hold a candle to it!

There was also another one.....one of those good OLD scary movies. And the housekeeper use to walk around saying something like........"when your all alone..........in the DARK..........in the NIGHT" Wish I could think of the name of that one. Someone??? Anyone remember??????? I have rented a bunch trying to find it, but no success.

Actually the last movie I was actually scared at was the Alien...........30 years ago! :new_shocked:

(OMG......has it really been that long! I'm OLD! )
