We got a new puppy today... he's a cutie, Great Pyrenees/Pointer Cross, but took to the Pyrenees side (white with a few lemon spots on his ears and one on the very top of his head)... he's very laid back and loving.... He walks right with us and when we stop, he sits and waits... He plays very well with my little boy, too. He has two dew claws on a hind foot... is this common? The person we got him from (owner of the purebred Pyr Mother) said that it was... I'll post pictures tomorrow... Just wanted to know more about them from people that own them... Read up a lot on them and they really fit what we were looking for... I know some of you have them, just couldn't remember who... He doesn't have a definate name yet, but my little boy calls him Scooby doo...

Thanks,

Chris

Congrats they are the most wonderful dogs..

Great Pyrennes are great dogs :aktion033: be ready for the drool factor though, that's something I had to get use to coming from having little dogs mostly. And they do love little dogs, very territorial and usually stay within their perimeter. My guy is also very talkative not a big barker unless something is going on which is nice as my minis have gotten out a time or two and he has alerted me and stayed with them until I could get them back in. Have fun with him

Are two are not droolers. But then again our two dont like little dogs, or dogs in general either. THe one is old 13.5 years old she pretty much dont like anything but us anymore. The other one, who turned out super considering we got her as a 2 year old rescue. She is very protective of not only "her" barn but "her" people as well.

I had some people down last year to look at a horse. They came in the barn when I wasnt in there and Marissa imediatly got up and was barking and growling at them. She didnt do nothing, just stood there until I came in and called her off. She isnt afraid of anything really, but my cocker spaniel. She wants to play with her all the time and Marissa just takes off in the other direction.

If you do plan to use him for guarding I do recomend getting the dews removed.

We just love our pyr.. she is the best dog.. I am NOT a big dog person, but this girl is the best!! I can trust her at anytime with our children! She loves the horses, and the goats, sheep, and is even best buddies with the barn cat. She is very territorial.. We have tried to put her in the back yard to play with the kids, but she cries till you put her back with the ones she is to guard. This is Daisy a month or so ago... we got her this time last year. She is a doll!!!
