I just found out about this auction. They said it is really good. It is far for me. I wanted to get opinions to see if it is worth the trip/

Hi, I live about an hour from it and when I went the last time I thought it was very decent and nice and there were alot of horses consigned. But as with any prices, some years there are awesome prices and other years real high, but if you are close enough I think you would enjoy it. I won't be able to go this year

but still hoping to get to the fall one.

I'm planning on going to it. I only live about an hour away so it's close enough for me to drive there. I bought a mare there 6 yrs ago and am very pleased with her. I've went to almost every one of them. If you really look you can find some really nice horses. Sometimes the prices go high and sometimes you can get a really good deal on one, it's all in how many people are wanting the horse that's in the ring. You just have to know what you're looking for and know where the prices are. I'd like to get another one but just don't have the room or the money to get one.

This sale is only a little over an hour away from me and I try to go to all the mini sales they have. I really enjoy it and have bought some nice horses. The following are 2 emails they've sent re the May sale.

THE EAST COAST'S MOST POPULAR SALE IS BETTER THAN EVER!!

In the May 19, 2007 sale there is something for everyone!! Here are some of the special developments you should know about...

Come to the sale for a herd dispersal from one of the East Coast's Top Miniature Horse Breeders. A total of 25 head including 3 stallions and 22 mares, many with foals by their sides or ready to foal. Among the "glitter' you will find a champion stallion with top bloodlines in this dispersal!

Looking to raise your own champions? Babies, too! To view these donkeys, go to the following website: www.donkettekorral.com after May 10, 2007.

There'll be major spots before your eyes- LOADS of Appaloosas have been consigned to this sale; blue roans, blanketed apps, leopards, and mares with babies!

The Best Gets Even Better!!

Since our last Newsflash we've gotten some very special horses consigned -- In the May 19th Sale, you will be able to bid on four SONS (that's right, sons, not grandsons) of the famous HEMLOCK BROOKS EGYPTIAN KING.

Remember we told you about having Apps, and Apps, and more Apps....hold on to your horses (pun intended) there are even MORE Appaloosas consigned, including mares with babies that came with thier own blankets.

If you don't come to this sale, and bring your friends, you'll never forgive yourself!!

Look for the sale staff in the blue vests! They'll be waitin' for you-

My friend Ginny and I have gone a few times. It's a lot of fun. It's a good idea to go early so you can really looked at the horses before the auction. We purchased some wonderful horses. And some that turned out to be less impressive. Over all it has been positive.

Seating can be hard to come by so if you can bring a folding chair just in case. Also the parking is tricky.

Seating is Horrible!! Not enough seats for everyone. Lots of folks (sellers I guess who come in early?) reserve seats. They have a rule that if you're not in that reserved seat by 9:00, you lose it and it's up for grabs. I've stood at this sale and also sat on the concrete steps. It can be a Long sale!! I'm just too old for that!!! A seller I know saves me a seat and my hiney is in it by 9:00!!!

Im going also, wouldnt miss it for the world! Joe puts on a good sale. And his help also puts on a good show sometimes. I bought a few horses there also. i hope to buy another this time. Lorie

WHat do you mean reserved seating? If you have reserved seating and you get up you dont loose your seat? Howm many minis do you think will be there?

The reserve seating is the seats at the sale ring. They are usually reserved the night before. Rope tied across or signs or what ever to hold them. I would guess it is the same people most of the time. Some are buyers and some sellers and several appear to be dealers. If you find an empty seat at 9 good luck as usually the people sitting beside it know who it is held for.

It is buyer beware for sure. There are some very nice horses and some that are just being dumped to get ride of them. Some go for decent money, many are cheap, and some that are cheap are still over priced with issues they have. You really have to pay attention to what you are bidding on. Some come from good breeders and some from "puppy mill types". One older lady last fall tried to sit on her yearling in the ring to show it was broke to ride. They told her no but she did anyway.

The tack sale is best part for us. Loads of stuff and most is fairly cheap. You can buy off the truck for the rest of the day after tack sale. Usually some carts and harnesses outside. Last fall some one tried to consign an old beat up trailer, 2 flat tires, all rusted and not road worthy. They would not sell and Joe thought he would end up paying scrap dealer to haul it off.

Wish we could get down again, maybe in the fall.

ALso, I hate to be a pain but does anyone know of a motel around thier? I would like to stay over night.

There are several motels close by. I'm sorry, but don't know the names.

Don't know who is dispersing on the East Coast. I posted that question a couple of weeks ago and nobody knew.

Usually there are 150-200 animals being auctioned off. Donkeys go first (there are anywhere from just a few to maybe 20 (?) donkeys. Sale starts at 10:00 and can end around 5:00. It's a long day!!! I normally leave my house around 6:00 and get there by about 7:15 so I can look. No money to buy at this sale, but it's still fun to window shop!!

Be careful if you're buying. Really look over the horses in advance. Any pinto mare/filly is going to go for a decent price whether they are conformationally correct or not. Some people seem to just buy "color" regardless of how the horse is built!!

Motels are Rodeway inn 717-597-7762, Econolodge 717-597-5255, johnies motel 717-485-3116. i didnt see the old lady sit on her yearling and i was there for the whole thing. I know it is buyer beware, I have one of the bad ones from last year, that is insulin resistant. And would not get in foal. So now i have a pet. But those are the breaks.

Thanks so much. I just called motels dot comm. they gave me the econolodge and said it is 55 a night. That is not bad. I am going to call those other numbers.

Do you think the prices are too pricey? Or do you think they are relativly cheap for the most part?

As for hotels there are a number just up and down I-81. We usually stay at Best Western a few miles North.

Almost new and very clean. I think it is Exit 11? Sale barn is Exit 5.

As for prices I would hate to be selling there. Color seems to matter to many. They wiil pay more for a poor quality pinto than a great solid. Apps have done well in past. Saw an AMHA app filly with very bad legs that was going to go over her A papers with no question (seller told us that) sell for $2600. The buyer had no clue what they bought other than it was an app.
