I have filly born this spring, this is the 3rd time I have had this cross and She has mottling around her mouth, eyes, butt, and none of the other foals or her sire/dam have any and there is NO Appy in the breeding anywhere . She was born looking like silverbay,

.

I had some testing done her and this is what I got Hawk Hollows Sheeza Show Steeler- Miniature Horse

nn -sabino 1

Ee -red factor

nZ -silver

I was thinking maybe the mottling was from the sabino gene, but she is Neg for that, and I have been told this can happen with silver gene, but she only has one silver gene.

Any one want to guess whats up with her??? Or any other testing on her we can do ??? JANE

I would still say she's Sabino....and quite possibly graying out as well. (as you said the sire was born bay & turned white).

There are many different "types" of Sabino, and unfortunately the only test we current have for that, only tests for the one that causes "Max White Sabinos". Because she tested negative for Sabino, doesn't mean she doesn't carry one of the other Sabino types....which is a distinct possibilty.

She could also be a Silver-White. This is what you get when you have a horse who carries both Silver & Gray. These horses are either born white, or will turn white very rapidly, as the graying process seems to be accelerated by the Silver gene. Mottling is common on both Grays & Silvers.

And...she could be a combination of all three!

Thanks Donna, I bet she is sabino, just not the one they test for, I forgot to say her sire is LWO postive ( he has one blue eye) and his sire was ft phanom farms steely dan and I was told her was a silver white, so maybe this is whats up with her, the mottling on her, really had me confused on her color. And she has the white eye rings when born, so she will gray out , so she must carry both silver & gray .....JANE

She sounds a lot like the gray mare we have that I think you have seen. Mira was born a silver bay frame overo and turned gray very fast (that silver gene at work). She has one blue eye with eye liner and also has mottling, but mostly where it isn't too visible!. With NO APP anywhere I figure it is from the frame overo, or possibly another pinto gene. Ours was also tested and is EE, Aa, nZ, and LWO+. Not tested for sabino.
