How to Herd a Mini

Start with 2 minis - 35 and 36 inches. Add them to 1 pasture - 23 acres. Include rolling hills, and areas where the grass is nearly as tall as the minis. Mix well. Once minis are well mixed in the pasture, add 1 Jeep, husband driving, wife riding shotgun. Proceed to four wheel the pasture until minis are found! Follow minis to dry lot, watching them run, kick, jump, buck, and occassionally get lost again, requiring more four wheeling to refind them. Laugh heartily. Put minis in dry lot, feed them supper. Enjoy having had hubby and wife time, courtesy of two ornery minis!

Note: Some of the most fun we've ever had with the jeep!

although if done down here the minis would have gotten away easily after kicking up a large cloud of dust behind them with the drought we have going on!!!!!!!

LOL!! I had to laugh!! Sounds like my place. For various reasons a couple of weeks ago I had to move my 13 mares and their foals down on to the 25 acres that is supposed to be their winter grazing. Yes it has hills, valley's and woods. Grass is up to or over their knees. Did they graze? No!! They raced about like mad things and we (on foot watching and enjoying their delight) often had to jump behind the nearest tree to avoid being mown down in the stampede LOL!! The foals are all coming up/are 5 months old now and I can often see them, from my window, streaking across the horizon - they just love the freedom of large natural spaces! Luckily no one has 'blown up' on all the grass, but the goodness has gone out of most of it by this time of year here. I also think that the ground they cover wandering about, not to mention the hills they have to climb, helps to keep them reasonably trim!

But what do they do when I go visit them each day? Come rushing to me from all directions, insisting that I take them back to the buildings with me for some food!! They have got to be joking LOL!!

I couldn't find mine due to the tall prairie grass even the BIG mini that is 36" was a tad hard to see. I pull out the ole cowbell and start ringing and pretty quick I see the HERD tearing thru the grass to the barn for dinner.

I had to buy a brushhog to mow the pastures because I couldn't see the horses!!

Sounds like a good time had by all!
