I have been wanting my own horse trailer for so long. I hate relying on my friend to pick us up and transport us around and besides, I need one in case of emergencies.

My hubby and friend have promised to custom build me my own trailer, but that is just another job to add to the list of things to do. They have good intentions and all the knowledge to do it, it's just finding the time that is the problem.

So, I set out on my own search for an affordable trailer and found one online close to home. It's actually a full sized single horse trailer and it's really quite UGLY. I sent hubby to take a look at it and he phoned to say it needed too much work.

I got home last night and it's sitting in the backyard! It's mine! He tricked me!

So we are going to repaint it and fix a few minor things and keep it until the boys finally build me my own 'good one'. Tonight I'm going to put Bailey and Willow in it...not going anywhere, just playing around.

I'll get photos of the trailer, before and after.

Congrats ! It is wonderful getting that first horse trailer isn't it.

I just got mine last Sunday. We are in the process of stripping it down for a new paint job. It needs a little TLC, but not bad. Have fun with it.

Congratulations, Leonie!!! I can't wait to see your before and after pictures and I know you will do a great job with it. My first trailer isn't anything fancy but I remember how over the moon I was when I first got it and I still love it to this day! Way to go and A+++ to your hubby!!!

It doesn't need to look "flash" Leonie - just safe! I am sure the kids will love being able to get out and about even more.

They (and you) seem to be set to become "social butterflies"

Jill, trust me...it's nothing like your 1st trailer! Your 1st trailer is like the trailer I'd like to have as my 'good one'.

The feeling of freedom is wonderful. I loaded Bailey and Willow into it last night and they stood there as if to say "ok Mum, lets go somewhere!"

Oh, no! A trailer is a trailer!!! All that matters is that you can use it to take your horses places. My first one isn't my fancy one and I am sure yours will be every bit as useful as my first one is. Plus, really when you are done with your magic on it, I would bet it will shine way brighter than mine!!!

I get exactly what you're feeling. I remember how happy happy daydreamy happy I felt when we got the first trailer just knowing I could take the horses anywhere I wanted

What a sweet hubby.. Congratulations on your " new" trailer.... We still have our first trailer.. NOw I am waiting on my really good one..LOL

Isn't it a great feeling? You'll have to get us some pictures. I have a fixer upper trailer. It's dented up pretty bad on the front, but it is all cosmetic and is safe. Now, if only the transmission didn't go in our tow vehicle...

It's a feeling that only other horse people would understand. My kids can't believe how thrilled I am. I keep walking past the kids saying "Guess what guys? I've got a trailer!". They think I'm flipped.

Friends and family are happy for me, but they really don't understand the excitement I have.

I just knew my horse friends could relate!

I bought my first trailer (and my only trailer) after Hurricane Isabel put my fields and the site where my barn sits now under 4-5 feet of water. At the time, with only two minis, I was able to bring them into the garage to be safe -- the house sits on higher ground. But as the herd grew, I realized I needed to be able to evacuate everybody in one trip. Hopefully, I'll never have to use it for that purpose, but there's a certain piece of mind knowing that I can get everybody out if necessary.

My first horse trailer was UGLY too. We got it VERY cheap because the ad was placed in the local paper on a cold wintery day. We brought it home and my husband totally overhauled it. He sanded and repainted it a color I liked. It was wonderful. A little hard work and a little bit of time and we had a trailer that was amazing. Sometimes you *can* make a silk purse......
