Some of you know that I have been working on a book with Small Horse Press on Miniature Horse Conformation. Toni has been so patient with me as I got behind when Rusty started going through all these tests and medical problems. I am finally coming to the end but now we are having problems with pictures. I feel like the pictures are so important to this book as most people have to actually see what they are reading about.

Back in the spring I had asked for pictures of conformation and some people did reply (thank you so much!) But the problem is these pictures are taken at too low of a resolution. The pictures have to be 300 dpi.

Thank you all in advance and thanks to mary lou for letting me try to get help with pictures

Its really hard to get pictures in 300ppi from out of the camera, but if they are good crisp pictures, I would be willing to offer some time to save them in 300 ppi if you don't have the ability or anyone else that could do so. My boyfriend and I run a magazine with our racing club and my camera usually runs around 140-170 ppi, but I save them as 300 and they come out pretty good in the magazines.

I could get some pictures of some of the catergories.. I have to leave the house right now to go to the store with my mom, but when I get back, I will email you some.

Hi Everyone,

Kay asked me to add my 2-cents about the photos.

As for 300 dpi, that is the resolution I need to print them in the book so they are not blurry or teeny-tiny.

Most cameras don't export that high a resolution, but if your camera settings are to "high" or "maximum", your photos will have plenty of data to convert to the resolution I need. On most cameras, the "default" is low resolution to aid in e-mailing, etc.

I use a Kodak Easy Share digital, and I keep the "Picture Size" (in the menu) at 5.0 megapixels. I can lower this number, which gives me more pictures on the disk, but less flexibility to work with them.

For explanation purposes, a 72-resolution image that has measurements of, say, 18x24 inches is plenty big enough.

A 72-resolution image that measures 5x7 inches will end up the size of a postage stamp!

I hope this helps.

I don't know who puts the books together but you might try calling the AMHR office and see if you can get copies. Our judges clinic notebooks show many of the conformation faults you have listed and might work for your book. The pictures are pretty detailed but they are not of a whole horse.
