I have always wanted a Poitou Donkey. They came from the same area of France my Mom's side of the family came from.

They just are the most wonderful donkeys!

I know there were some geldings for sale way back when in the US...but can't remember where.

Anyone else love Poitou's?

oh yes, but then i am a sucker for hair... :bgrin love the mustangs too with their wild forelocks... that's one of the reasons Jasmine and her daughter were my first minis, of all the ones the guy had for sale they had the best manes...

I mentioned this on a post just a little bit ago..that the poitou is a grand donkey and I want one! There is (not sure if its still going anymore) a farm in Illinois that had a few. There really rare and hard to find. They also are one of the most endangered breeds of donkeys. Shari, are you sure these were poitou geldings you seen for sale, because of what I know--they always kept the jack exclusively for breeding (the purebreds) and only gleded the part-bred jacks, and those were used as regular working donkeys. We talked about there corded coats when I posted about them. Shari, let me know when you buy one :bgrin ot two, or maybe a herd of then. :bgrin Corinne

Yes, last year they had purebred geldings for sale in the "Rare Breeds" magazine. Just can't find that Magazine and she is not on line. Sigh ~ ~

She was really hard to get ahold of too.

And there is a breeder of part breeds....was just on his web site a little while ago.

In the Brayer magazine there are two purebred Registered P. Jennys for sale. One is going for $8,000 and the other 10,000. Wish I hand that kind of money!!!! Is back in the classifieds area.

Shari, we definitely need to win the lottery,

Jessi, those part bred Piotou folks... I think have some small Donkey's that look like the P's?

Hay,, was just thinking...if I got a Piotou to ride...I would get so tangle up in their locks there is no way I could come of! :risa_suelos:

Oh My! :new_shocked: What a pricetag on some of those darlings!

But I too would

: love to have a herd of the shaggy beauties.

So if one of us wins the lottery, then we'll have to buy each other a few

Also thinking on getting a been there done that bomb proof, super smooth or Gaited Riding Donkey/Mule.

I figure if I ever think about riding again....maybe it would be best? Along with the wee driving Donkey too.

Tho those kind of riding Donk's sell like hot cakes.

Would really apprecate all of you keeping your eyes out. Figure sooner or later or when the time is right... :bgrin And more eyes there are, more likely to find the right ont! :bgrin
