Do I cry when I hit a deer with a car.. Yes I did~!!!! Because some begger came along and Stole it~!!~!! I went to a friends house to call the police dept. So I could get a permit to take the deer home and went back to the place where I creamed the deer and that sucker was gone..Somebody wanted it more then I dd I guess. made so mad~!!

Yes I have cried it's really traumatic to me to kill anything. I've never hit anything as big as deer though I sure I'd be devastated, you poor thing

It's a wonder I drive at all. I smashed a pigeon taking my licensing test. The instructor promised it would get out of the way but when I heard the tire go over him I started sobbing so he made me pull over so I didn't cause a wreck. I was flunked for that and had to take my test again. I've hit a pheasant and flattened more opossums than I can count when I drove truck. Opossums are incredibly stupid creatures.

The joke used to be, how many possum(s) does it take to "do it"? Three, two to do it and one to watch for cars.

: Yah, I know, pretty dumb

Yes I cry, both for the critter and any damage they might have done to my truck. Hit a rather large hog a month after we got the truck, did some minor damage to the front end, knocked the alignment out big time, dunno what happened to the hog. Hubby works a freight train and they are forever hitting critters ( even some stupid tinbox driving fools) , esp tree dwellers who get on the rails thinking its a branch and safe :new_shocked: They hit a bull once that got sucked up under the so called cattle guard. Yup, full size bull fit into about a 10" tall space ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

You talk about something that is a Hard hit.. Try hitting a hog yikes.. many years ago on my way to work I was driving a 3/4 ton fords truck and this full sized hog run in front of me... The whole truck shuddered when I hit him.. But had no damage to the truck but sure killed that pig out right. Uff Da.

I have seen the picture of a person hitting a horse.. And the head went through the windshield and landed in the passenger seat Just After that Passenger was led out~! That could have been a bad one if the person was still sitting in that car.....Ouch for sure. with a horses head in your lap.

I have never hit a deer thank god, but I know I would feel bad, especially if it was still alive and suffering. I am a deer hunter (bow) and it would still bother me, most hunters DO have lots of respect for the animals they hunt. That being said - I don't know if I would cry, but if I hit a dog or cat, yes, I probably would be upset enough to cry. Thank god I've never hit either. The only things I've managed to hit are rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, birds- and I do feel bad, but I'm not going to wreck my car and injure myself or someone else to avoid a bunny. I've hit opossums and raccoons before and to be honest, didn't feel bad about the opossum one bit - I hate them! The racoons I feel alittle sorry for (use to have one as a pet when I was young), but not as bad as I feel for the bunnies, squirrels.

I hit a buck two years ago. I was bringing my hubby home one night from the hospital and there was a bad snow storm. I saw the deer on the shoulder of the road and knew he was going to bolt but I couldn't avoid it.

I hit him in the hind quarter with my car.

I was able to get the car stopped finally and started to get out to go see if he was ok but my hubby made me get back in the car. I wouldn't be able to take it if the poor thing was laying there. My hubby took the wheel by then and turned the car around to see if the deer was laying on the road but the deer was gone! :new_shocked:

I still wonder today if he was ok.

Cry, no I wouldn't.

I would feel badly if I hit a deer and killed it but much worse if I injured it and it got away or if it was in real pain.

I hate to think of an animal suffering.

I would do my best to avoid the animal but that is all I can do.

I have killed many chipmunks, those little critters almost appear to be suicidal, they run into the car. I always check to see if they are dead, if they are I think to myself poor, little thing but that is as far as it goes really.

However, I have raced many little critters to the Wildlife Clinic because suffering in any living thing is horrible to me, and always worth trying to help out.

:new_shocked: I cry over almost any critters death. I've been so lucky to never have hit anything living. I don't even hit dead ones if i can avoid it. If I did I'm not sure I would ever drive again.
This is soooo me......in fact my hubby bought a stupid car I hated it from the get go....the day he brought it home he had me test drive it as I was driving I kept telling him the car was not a good idea...sure enough a bird hit my windshield ..at that moment I pulled off told him I couldn't drive it and that the car had been cursed....that car ended up broke down more often than it ran AND we screwed our credit up by having the stupid thing voluntarily repo'd after less than 8 months (it didn't run and no amount of money would fix it so told them to come get the dang thing)

now on the other hand I was HIT by a SQUIRREL once......stupid suicidal creature couldn't decide if he was coming or going and with no traffic I just stopped he ran into and bounced off of my hubcap

"You might think it's stupid, but whenever I drive by a dead animal/bird on the highway -- no matter what it is -- I say a prayer, blessing its soul on its way.

IMO, it's all a part of honoring life and death.

MA"

This is what I do, too... I feel it's only right.

I don't know that I cry, but it does bother me. I will try to avoid, but I do not swerve, if they have to be hit, it has to happen. I feel so sorry for the animals who are expected to live in our people populated world. They only want to go about their business of living and they get killed in our crosswork of roads and highways. Poor things.

My mum and I were driving up a road and a doe jumped from behind a bush ONTO our car. If she had been a he and had antlers my mums face would no longer be with us. The deer hopped off and was fine but our car had $2500.00 worth of damage to it. My mum and I were in hystarics(sp?) and crying quite a lot. The worst bit was when we phoned the insurance company they said they would pay for it as long as we brought the car in right away and didn't clean it up at all. So we had to bring this car down to the insurance place with bits of deer on the windscreen/hood and blood/hair etc. Bleh.

I have to say that although I don't like to see things die and don't like suffering I'd also be crying for my vehicle if it happened to me!

What a lot of people don't realize is that deer are a health risk to livestock, they can carry ticks/lyme disease, leptosporosis and many other nasty things, they also destroy crops. Our CITIOT neighbors feed the stinking things, drawing them right through my horse pasture every evening and then right across our front fields when they're done eating, I'm NOT impressed with this at all.

For this reason we do allow hunters during season, this is a herd of 12-14 that do a lot of damage.
