Those of you that have used the Just For Men hair coloring. It says to leave on for 5 min. Do you leave it on longer? Also how many bottles are needed for the mane and tail? thanks, I have never used this product before. Also what are the best colors for dark manes and tails. dionne

I suggest taking a sample into the store to look. Just For Men doesn't have that much in it, like 1/4th to a 1/3rd of what women's hair coloring does.

Have you looked at ethnic hair coloring?

If your horse has much of a mane & tail it will probably take 2 packages. I've done a horse with one but it was close, even with a thinner mane/tail. I leave it in 5-10 minutes and I generally use the jet black. Natural black works too, just not quite as intense a color.

It's been awhile since I've used it but I did leave it in longer, I think around 15 minutes. I think I usually got two boxes, but used just one. It's the shampoo in kind I've used, vs. the "brush on". How much you'd use would depend a lot on how thick the mane and tail are. The minis I've used it on have fine manes that I have undercut for a "sleaker" look. Good luck! And wear those gloves!!!

I went to the store to get the hair dye for my mare and bought the cheapest one on sale it was 4.95. The lady ask me if I was going to dye my hair (I'm buying 2 black) my hair is brown with a lot of gray. You should have seen the look on her face when I told her what I was going to use it for. I could still hear them talking about it as I was leaving the store. My mare has a thin mane so only used one box and it looks great. We slit a garbage bag just enough to pull the mane through and had plenty on each side for catching any drips. We left it on 15 minutes.

I have never had to leave it on longer then 5 minutes. For ponies it takes 2 boxes and minis usually take one unless they have a lot of mane and tail. I do black manes and tails and I think the one I use is called natural black

A friend used a Dollar Store knockoff of Just for Men and said it was great, only a dollar. Just for Men is worth the money IMO, the cheaper one dripped and ran, had cheapy gloves that didn't stay on.......

I just did my mare yesterday, I dyed her mane and tail and it took 2 boxes, 1 for the tail, 1 for the main/forlock. I used "Revlon" Colorsilk #10 black. Now that it is done, her mane/tail looks like it has a blueish/purple tint while its wet and looks soooo fake. But when it is dry, it looks black and natural.

If you seen my mare before her clip/and dying, you would'nt be able to tell that was the same horse and she looks GREAT!!!

I dyed her tail 1st, as I got the bottle ready for her mane, right after getting that bottle ready, I washed out the tail than went to the mane. I only waited 5-8 miniutes each. I also dyed before I clipped her, that way if it got on her body, it got clipped away.

Sorry cant post before and after photos. To big of photos and cant figure out photobucket.

I have used Just For Men, took me 3 boxes to do my pony. It only lasted about 1 month, and I had to re-do it before another show. Last time I used womens, and it took 1 box and has stayed black for 2 months now.

Im really surprised by that Kelly as mine lasted all show season last year and I used just for men

I am showing a Grulla this year and was wondering HOW I was going to do his mane when it is two colors!

Does anyone have any experience with dying the black on a Grulla Mane????

I don't know if our Texas sun has anything to do with it or not. But I did Sky for the March Corsicana show, and had to repeat it before I took her to Glen Rose. The women's dye seems to be working better for me. Dunno......
