Laid off ~~~

Few months back...DH division in Intel was bought by another company. Hubby was assured of a job and was moved over to the new company.

He travel when they said to and did good work like he always does..... but it wasn't good enough. I just got a call that he was laid off.

Am so not ready for this...farm in not set up well enough yet to produce enough food...we are bill heavy..mainly from the accidents, same reason we do not have any savings...and I am getting to old for this.

I know how to stream line and all that... been through this before in the past when he could only get contract jobs right out of the Navy.

So much for finally being able to meet up with the mini group here at the shows....also can't afford to become a juried member of the Oregon Art society....

Am just totally dejected.

aww shari, i'm so sorry. i know things probably look insurmountable to you at this point but i have always found that God has a way of pushing us along in the right direction and things just have a way of working out. i do so hope this will just be a big ole bump in the road for you. hang in there!

I know how you feel... I was laid off a month ago. Since I'm a breeding specialist, being laid off at the end of the breeding season is the worst possible time to be let go. I'll have to wait a good five months before I can get another job in my field of expertise. I can't wait that long! I had a whole one month's bank account reserved, and not even part time jobs are hiring right now. Filled out two dozen applications by now, not a single bite. My horses are currently boarded by friends, so they are taken care of, but I feel really bad not paying board. Hang in there, we'll find something!

Devastating! Jobs are tough, all over the country. We all know about "tightening up" but, you can only tighten soooo much and with rising prices it is even worse.

I work in the inventory business. Independent companies do the majority of retail inventory now and it is generally somewhat flexible -- in days, not always time of day -- and you may have such a company out there in your areas. I've run ads in both my own and a neighboring crew area during past 2 weeks to fill positions. It may not pay "the best" to start but, can be very helpful while you wait for the one you want to appear. You know, those grocery stores always have to be inventoried!!

Think outside the box for some temporary survival funds. Wish you both the best of luck -- but for luck, it could be me or ANY one of us on the forum.

Sorry you are in the same boat Nathan,,, really is a royal pain...Job market is not that great around here either.

Like you..as long as we can keep the house, the horses have plenty of food....and set for everything else for 10 months.

Hopefully DH will be able to find a job by then.

Just hate all this,,, is nearly impossible to stay with a company any length of time now a days. Sigh ~~

And when you get older...they don't want you because of age and or...you are over qualified.

Few months back...DH division in Intel was bought by another company. Hubby was assured of a job and was moved over to the new company.

Basically that same thing happened to Dave last year. Company bought out the one he was looking for, swore they'd all have jobs... and once the company was cleared and fully owned the plant and all, they closed it and laid everyone off.

That wasn't the worst one though- the next place he tried went bankrupt a week after they hired him. Sent everyone home mid workweek and work day, said there was a server issue, and then locked the doors behind everyone. Later that day they put up notices saying they'd gone bankrupt, after everyone went home. Didn't pay final paychecks for over a month, and we never even heard they were paying that!

It's been insane since then. I really really hope your husband finds more work and soon. My step-sister works (or worked, not sure) for Intel, and my mom did at one time too at one point. It's kinda scary how entirely lacking job security is suddenly.

Best wishes to you and yours, and here's praying that new work (maybe even better work!) finds you guys. You deserve it. And in the meantime... here's to everything going well.

Been there done that. Hubby was laid off the beginning of the year. Had to pray that something good would come along, it did! You all keep your chin up and faith strong. I always try to believe there is a good reason for things that happen. Prayers for a turn around in the economy and that prices go down and jobs pick up. Think positive.

We are going threw the very same thing and it is terrible..I did get a job to help out, but our income was cut more than half of what we use to get in a month.. I am so stressed about everything that I don't know if I am coming and going..

I remember when Hillsboro was going CRAZY in the early 90's with the tech boom. I was involved several Intel buildings including the new D1A where they were just starting to make Pentium chips. Also did a few Maxim and Techtronix buildings.

Seems like there are enough companies there that something will show up!

DH has already sent out resumes and will keep on it until he finds a job. Just hope it is soon and we do not have to move again. Sigh ~~

Sorry to hear a couple of you are going through the same thing. Is no fun. Already skinning things up.

We do have to keep the internet because that is the way most of Tech business want resumes. But what little we have...has to go. Netflix and directv...gone.

I just hope it does not get so bad I have to sell my Van. Not that I go a lot of places...but it is the only one I can sit in with out lots of pain. I can't even sit in DH little car yet. Selling the Van means I would be totally house bound until things improve.

Hubby had Contract jobs when he first got out of the Navy a number of years ago.. and he was jobless..inbetween jobs. At the old Farm we had a big Veggie garden, working Orchards, sheep,goats, chickens, ducks and so on...so we did not lack for food. I was also working as a horse trainer and in a green house to help with the funds.

We are not set up like that here sadly.

Also can't work and will not be able to work for a long time. Still healing from the stupid accident. Just going into my 2nd year of my 3 year heal time as per my Doc.

Will just have to take one day at a time and hope things come together.....soon.

Nathan- With your line of work maybe you should start or work for a franchise branch of one of the mobile K9 sperm banks that travel to larger local dog shows. Seems like they have a good little business going there. It's a hands on job though, har har...

Seriously though, you might look into it.

I am so sorry this has happened

My hubby got laid off about two years ago when the real estate market started to turn. He was and still is in new home sales. He lost all his projected commissions and it was a horrible time for us. It taught me that life goes on even in the worst of times and somehow you do get through it

They do come to dog shows with a little trailer, set up a booth and do collections in the trailer on site. Last time they did my dog they just rented a room at the motel near the show grounds and had their operation there (and no, they didn't tell the motel owners what was going on in there, ha ha...)

I'm so sorry to read this! The high tech industry sure has changed over the past few years...during the "dot.com bubble" I was turning away design jobs, but when it burst, several of my old standbys sucked all of their work in-house. It then, in turn, affected many other areas...

However, from what I know of Robert, he'll be working soon...he radiates quiet confidence and competency. So hang in there, and we'll just have to come to your place to drive!
