Due to the severity of the liver damage and a long discussion with the vet. We made the toughest decision of all. I'm just greatful we had last night and my daughter spent the morning hugging him. Our hearts are broken but per the vets advice we had to let him cross over the rainbow bridge. Freddie is just laying here now I do believe he knows. Strange but we were setting outside and all of a sudden Freddie started barking for no reason. Just looking in the air and barking. We came in and now he is just laying there which is very unusual for him. He keeps looking at me sadly. We did give them a few minutes prior to heading back to the vets office. I know it will be awhile before Freddie is back to his old self again. Hopefully I will be able to

comfort him as much as he needs.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Marie

I am so sorry!!! Nothing has hurt me more than loosing a dog -- they are family members and best friends. I am so sorry to read about Rodney

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I don't think there is anything worse than making that decision. My heart goes out to you.

I'm still in tears from our phone conversation. Rodney was a special little soul...I'll so miss coming to visit and having him jump onto my lap and squirm for attention.

The hardest thing about loving an animal is when you have to make that decision, but it was absolutely the right thing to do. We could all only be so lucky as to be reincarnated as one of your pets and enjoy such a wonderful life.

You'll be missed but never forgotten, Rodney. Good Dog.

I am so very sorry, Marie. I have been where you are, and it is heartwrenching, always. Yet, a blessing, to be able to release them from pain and suffering. My heart is with you.

We just had to do this last March 25th to our dear 14 yr old Luna our Lab..we really Do know how it hurts and how hard to get past it all for both the family and for their canine "family"

When our little Cricket died of cancer at 16 2 yrs ago, Luna would go to where here bed was and lay there and whine, or bark and just stare out in grief..that lasted for a couple weeks..she got better with time as she was a very accepting dog and trusted us so..now we feel like doing the same for her:(

So hopefully your other family memembers will all be able to help each other get through this hard time and let me add my heartfelt sympathy and hugs also.

Maxine

I am so sorry to hear this as I had really hoped for good news. I've been there before more times than I like to think about and it is not easy - at least your little one will not suffer. Take comfort in the fact that you did the right thing and now he is young and happy and healthy again.

so sorry

you all will be in our prayers.

All pets are like our children, we love them dearly.

Thank you all for your heartfelt condolences. This is not the first pet I have had to let go. But he is certainly the youngest one I've had to say goodbye too. As the vet said this has been going on for quite sometime but symptom didn't rear their ugly head until about 5 days ago. She said that is actually common with liver issues. Now that I look back I have to wonder if this was something he was born with. He didn't come from a breeder who has the pups in the home getting loved on daily. I have always felt he was pulled away from mom at too young of an age. He never seemed to be the age the breeder said he was. But we gave him alot of love and always gentle handling. My problem and biggest concern was for his companion Freddie. He just went to bed on his own. That isn't normal for him as he is an argumentative little guy who is full of energy.

My heart really aches for Rodney as does Freddies. Best to all of you and I wish none of us had to suffer this kind of sadness when we have pets but it is truly a part of owning a loving friend.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Give Freddie a pat for me.

I remember when my boxer Que got hit by a car, my 2 other girls saw it, and they haven't been the same since. It was last fall. They won't go near that part of the road. And, when they go outside now, they always seem to be searching. We buried her across the street and they stop by her grave, as if to say hello anymore.

It's amazing what dogs can sense.

Sorry again for your loss. R.I.P Rodney.

Even though Freddie thinks he is the toughest guy in the world. He is mourning. He stopped eating and scared me to death. We are all still mourning Rodney. He was an extremely gentle loving little soul. Not

a mean bone in that boy. Just wanted to play and be loved. Thank you all for your caring messages they mean so much at a time like this.

I'm sorry for your loss...I think Teddie will help Freddie get through this awful time. ((hugs))

I'm so sorry for your loss, having to make that decision a few years back, my heart goes out to you, Kathy
