My daughter joined a math club at school and had to do a few math problems, well I would like to check them but I suck at math word problems so I am posting the questions here and seeing what you guys come up with so I can check her work.

Thanks.

Tom painted the house in three hours. Becky can paint it in four hours. Huck can paint the house in six hours. If they work together what is their rate per hour?

A bike rider went up a hill at 10 mph and back down the same route at 20 mph. What is his average speed on the whole trip.

A bunch of bicycles and tricycles have 70 wheels and 58 pedals. How many of each (bike and trikes) is there?

How many different positive integers can you form using only 1, 2, 3, and 4 if each digit can be used at most once in any number?

How many days, hours, minutes and seconds is 1,000,000 seconds? Your number of hours must be less than 24; your number of minutes and seconds must be less than 60.

Thanks.

It is not even 6 am here but I will give it a try. This is kind of like AM I SMARTER THEN A 5th GRADER. Can I will a million? Or will I flunk?

Tom painted the house in three hours. Becky can paint it in four hours. Huck can paint the house in six hours. If they work together what is their rate per hour? .75 houses in an hour

A bike rider went up a hill at 10 mph and back down the same route at 20 mph. What is his average speed on the whole trip. I would have guessed 15 miles per hour but I am coming up with 13.33 mph. I used 20 miles each direction. three hours total time. 40 miles divided by 3 hours equal 13.33

A bunch of bicycles and tricycles have 70 wheels and 58 pedals. How many of each (bike and trikes) is there? 12 trikes, 17 bikes

How many different positive integers can you form using only 1, 2, 3, and 4 if each digit can be used at most once in any number? 44 positive integers I really have no clue, I just wrote them all out and counted them. 1,2,3,4,12,13,14,21,23,24,31,32,34,41,42,43,123,124,132,134,142,143,213,214,312,313,314,412,321,324,421,423,132,134,231,234,431,432,142,143,241,243,341,342

How many days, hours, minutes and seconds is 1,000,000 seconds? Your number of hours must be less than 24; your number of minutes and seconds must be less than 60. 11 days, 13 hours, 45 minutes, 40 seconds.

HeHe I don't get them even when the problem is worked out right in front of me

After my daughter works on them a bit more I will show her what you guys came up with and let you know what she came up with.

I saw she had one more problem on the back of the paper-----it goes like this.

At the end of 1994 Walter was half as old as his grandmother. The sum of the years in which they were born 3838. How old is Walter at the end of 2007?

Ok class :bgrin I'll be back later, gotta go load up for the dump before it rains.
