Hi I wanted to start what is hopefully a fun topic, and also to get ready for some fun shows and stuff!!! I was wondering if people had pictures of their minis in costumes? and if so lets see them!!! also do you make them yourself or is there somewhere to buy them?

nobody has pictures of your dressed up minis? at shows or for halloween, parades and stuff!!!! anything...

I guess I'll post my failure at a costume.

Well, I took my dwarf filly, Connor, to the town Christmas parade. We made her a costume just because and we had a blast with her! Connor even got to meet Santa Claus!

I had to laugh at this topic! Years ago, when we took some horses to our first show, they had the costume show, and I about fell over! I had NO idea that people put costumes on their horses! There were some very creative ones, and while I understand that the *idea* behind it is to demonstrate how calm and trained the horse is, I swore I'd never dress up one of my horses. I just want them to be a horse!

But I still like looking at pictures of them dressed up! I think they are so cute! I hope we get to see some good pics here!

Well, I was looking for new ideas. But I'll put our past efforts at costumes out here. Our club has a fun show each spring and my grandchildren have been participating in various things since 2007.

2007 grandson wanted to be a superhero so our mare had to be his girlfriend.

2008 I convinced him to be an indian with his indian pony. (He got a kick -no pun intended- out of putting hand prints with body paint on her)

2009 we did a Princess carriage with the 2 boys as knights escorting their sister the princess.

There are several pictures of others kids on our club website if you'd like to see more. http://www.sewmec.co...y/2-club-events

I'm glad you started this! My daughter has been begging to do costume this year and I am having a hard time coming up with A) anything original and B) something that can be created with my limited sewing/crafting skills! Love the pictures!

The 4H club I belong to won the Massachusetts State 4H horse show County Costume class with this getup.

my horse, Rodeos Call Me the Boss is the shark on the left. And another member of my club's horse, Indian Rain Dance is the overboard sailor.

We usually take one of our minis, Magic, trick or treating with my son. Sometimes he drives, sometimes I just walk him. This is the costume we came up with for him last year..... the pumpkin had a glowstick in it, and the neck area was one of those squishy balls that flashed a red light.

Saber as a Tourist.

Saber wore this costume last year around Halloween at a couple therapy events including a festival at a nursing home & at an elementary school during READ.

A friend had given us the hat & shirt which was a dog costume that was too big for her dogs. We added Build A Bear shoes and quickly a quickly made camera.

We fashioned the camera out of an a empty box covered in construction paper, a empty duct tape roll with plastic taped to one end and silver taper wrapped around it. The lense was taped to the box with electrical tape. An old tv/stereo cable was the strap (the finger parts went inside the box). Then we pasted an old printed photo on the back as the video screen and drew a couple features with a silver pen.

Sorry, tried to post a pic of my mom dressed as a pumpkin and her horse as a witch with cape, hat, and ear holes cut in hat. Very cute, but guess you'll just have to imagine.

Well, I am so excited about this topic because this is one of the things I most look forward to doing with my minis! What GREAT ideas so far.

I'm working on coming up with some patriotic stuff for a parade on the 9th of April! Hurry up, Mary!

I really like the creativity used in making Saber's camera...and the build a bear shoes are absolutely AWESOME! My son has some shoes for his build a bear...but doubtful they'd fit Magic (who is MY "Saber..." whom I can take just about anywhere)

Already posted a (hopefully) somewhat helpful reply on Sandee's topic page. I am the same-new at computer's and probably can't get any pictures up.

My Mom is our real costume-aholic!
default_laugh.png
Her horse has been a High School letterman (football) and she a cheerleader; Medival maiden and knight's horse and a Medival knight and horse (she like the "lady" better); Alice and the white rabbit in his Queen of Hearts get-up (the horse is black; so yes, he was covered almost comletely up-only ears, very tip of muzzle and hooves showed); Bo-Peep and her sheep (same scenerio for horse); 50's Poodle-skirted teen and the horse was "Elvis" in his white jeweled outfit; Betsy Ross with "yankee Doodle" (a dressed up stuffed monkey toy) on his "Macaroni" patriotic 'pony'; there's probably more! That poor horse has been covered in fleece and fake fur from nose tip to tail tip in 90 degree weather more than once.

(we do dress him at the very last minute) He is so tolerant to these costumes when he is not always the most tolerant horse on the place. But the last time we went to dress him in his sheep outfit on a 90 degree show day he pinned his ears at me!

Boy did I feel like torture-er! He still let me put it on and was tolerant through the (mercifully) short class. We use Suitability's mini blanket/sheet and/or hood patterns for alot of the horse's base costumes. We just adapt and revamp. Like my sister says: remember, it's a costume-the sewing doesn't have to be that good. you're not wearing it everyday!
