Toronto is being vandalized and is in chaos right now during the first day of the G20! I'm disgusted and saddened. Does anyone else know where this group, "Black Bloc" is from? They don't know where this is going to go. I'm not sure why police didnt' do anything earlier (I've heard they were hoping it would dissipate

). Taser/shoot them, for heavens sake!

It is definitely getting crazy there! I'm all for people stating their opinions, but when people start getting out of line and start destroying property and endangering others, that when their rights end and the police need to step in. I saw that the police DID stop them from progressing down some main streets, but it looks like they need to do a little more enforcement.

Here are some pictures I found:

Toronto

I'm just sick. Apparently the group causing this mayhem is called "Black Bloc".

They must be the ones dressed in all black with the black masks on? Criminals trying to disguise themselves as activists

Exactly...the COWARDS...stir the crap, get everyone going, and then melt into the crowd and take your mask off...swalk aways with a snide grin...I can just see it now. How people allow themselves to be sucked intom this kind of thig amazes me.

As for the police not stepping in quickly enough...they walk a fine, hard line. If they had stepped in hard, at the very beginning, you think the media wouldn't of trashed them for being too harsh? As it is, the one photo shown there of a protester being arrested...of ALL the protesters...who did the media take the shot of? Yeah...that young kid being held on to by the big burley cop, oh yes, that is what will make the headlines...

For sure the police have a fine line to walk. They can't just shoot someone without taking major flack over it afterward. Even where shooting is really the only option, when they do shoot someone there is major flack over it. Using a taser is much the same it seems, at least here in Canada. There has been so much negative publicity over the use of tasers that police are likely not anxious to use them. Sadly the media does play up the police brutality theme--and apparently much of the public in general doesn't want to see the police win out over the "bad guys". I get so tired of the hoopla made over every incident where police shoot a suspect that refuses to put down their arms. If someone has a gun or a knife or any other weapon and is threatening police (or anyone) I think they deserve to get shot or tasered. Canadian law doesn't necessarily seem to agree with me!

I agree. It's just hard to watch it and not feel like not enough is being done. But I know they have their tactics etc.

As someone on my Facebook just said, "The best way for people to have protested would have been to do nothing. That way they could show what a colossal waste of money we spent on security."

I've just been watching the National news and the clips of the violence in Toronto. I do agree--it's very hard to watch that and see how little was initially done to stop it. It INFURIATES me to watch those thugs jumping on police cars and smashing windows & lights on those cars, on buildings, tipping over mail boxes. I do not envy the police their jobs at all! If I were there--actually even not being there, just watching it on TV--I want to pick up a gun & pick those thugs off one by one! They deserve to get tasered or even shot for that kind of senseless destruction.

I have to say that I greatly admire the horses they use for these riots--the training these horses have to have, and the calmness they show in the face of such violence is impressive. They are surely some of the most truly bombproof horses you'll find anywhere.

I was hoping Canada, would stay.. well Canada.

Had to go look that group up, what a bunch of wack jobs. You have problems with people in black clothing.. and Portland is having problems with Blacks.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying all blacks are like this, just the ones that are causing the problems.

Police in Portland are having the same issues. Dammed if they do and Dammed if they don't. And if you are black in Portland, you should be able to get away with shooting a Police officer and when his Peers fire back to protect the downed officer they are in the wrong.

Then they have the Black league on the news saying the Police officers are out of line!! Can you believe it! Think they are taking this "race" thing a bit too far.

If you shoot a Police officer you give up your rights, doesn't matter what color you are, what your reasons are. The black league doesn't want the Police to use guns, tasers, bean bag guns or any force when needed.

But I don't see their backsides out there protecting the public. They are nice and safe behind the speakers in a building, complaining.

Police officers have families too and they want them to come home alive.

Sorry... a little off topic there...

What a sad deal.... I must say it seems that the world is getting more and more 'out of balance' and I fear that more of this will happen in the future for various issues/reasons.

I looked at the pictures and it reminds me of the riots when the WTO was in Seattle. It was so crazy, and so very expensive, and I still don't "get" it. For years the protesters were being recognized in pictures and arrested. I have no doubt they would be right back there for the next time around...in fact they may just be in your city. Sad. Disgusting. Expensive. The utter disregard for any other than themselves, and the utter disregard for any time but the immdediate is quite frightening to me.

I support PEACEFUL protest, even if I don't agree with the cause, BUT...

The problem that has arisen in recent years is that anarchists latch onto what began as a peaceful protest, simply to wreak havoc. Their "cause" is solely to create mayhem and destroy property, and that they do. Sadly, the peaceful groups are labelled as violent.

Not saying that that is the case in Toronto, but it has happened in Seattle, Portland, Eugene and many other cities.

I've wondered at times if it's not the opposing side acting to discredit those behind the peaceful protests.

No matter, ANYONE who perpetuates acts of violence and destruction are a cancer on our society.

It is exactly because of (insert all expletives here) like the Black Bloc that soooo much money MUST be spent on security! And no matter WHAT the police do, it'll never be right. Too much force, not enough force, action too soon, action too late, whatever. Can you imagine what would have happened in Toronto if the police had NOT responded to the Black Bloc and other vandals the way they had?!?!

And all the discussions about WHO will cover the costs of all the damage. OMG, who else but the Black Bloc! Good luck with that, though!

Watching the events in Toronto over the weekend made my blood boil!! But what upset me even more was the death of TWO Canadian soldiers (and 148 others before them). Good people who died defending our rights and freedoms so &*(^%*(s like the Black Bloc (and all others of their ilk!!!!) could do what they do! Maybe THEY need to be sent over to seek out the IED's that kill our troops on a regular basis.

Could always gather them up and ship them to China. See how long that kind of behavior lasts.
