Went to the endocrinologist today to have more done with my thyroid. He is a really nice Dr, at least I liked him much much better than the other Dr that told me my thyroid is enlarged.

Anyway, the Dr said that he is very surprised that I am not having more troubles than what I am with it as I have two VERY large (golf ball sized) nodes. And the thyroid it's self is enlarged and well I should be having troubles swallowing and maybe even breathing. So after the ultrasound, he said that he wouldn't need to do a needle biopsy. He said that I should have surgery to remove my thyroid. At that time they will be checking for cancer as well as about 5% of the people that need to have the thyroid out has thyroid cancer. So I asked him a million questions like "what happens if there is a natural disaster and I can't get the thyroid meds" to "If he had to have his thyroid removed, who would he choose to do the surgery" to which he responded "Oooh that's a good question" and then told me to see the Surgeon that I was told about by the other Dr that I had only seen once for an ear infection. So in that aspect, I guess I have two referals to the same surgeon and that should mean positive things about him.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I continue on this really scary journey for me. (I am petrified about seeing DRs, and surgeons are the ultimate "fear factor" for me. I am hoping that I can get it scheduled very soon so it is not to late into spring and I don't chicken out because I have to wait, and am just praying that it isn't cancer so that this will be as simple as possible. And I am praying that I have a super good surgeon and that there are no complications from the surgery as well. (I am such a big chicken and a huge worry wart!!!)

Anyway, just needed some support, and I know that I will find it here. Sigh.

: Prayers, support and good thoughts coming your way Nila. I would be scared too. Hard not to be. My biggest fear is something happening to me, not for my sake, but fear for my kids not having their mom.

I understand how scared you must be. You are doing the right thing by getting the referrals for your surgeon. Prayers and healing thoughts headed your way.

Aww, Nila, I have a very good friend who has been through this, though she had the radiation treatments on the thyroid, rather than the surgery, and there was that scare of cancer, hers turned out to be ok in that respect.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, I am the same w/doctors, and so I feel for you. I hope that all this goes as smoothly as it can and that you are soon well and fine and all this is just an unpleasant memory.

YOU CAN DO THIS MY FRIEND! SET THE INTENTION THAT YOU WILL GET THRU THE SURGERY WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE AND ALL YOUR ORGANS ARE PINK AND HEALTHY.

PLEASE TRY TO LET ME KNOW A WEEK BEFORE YOUR SURGERY IF YOU CAN.

PRACTICE DOING THE INTENTION EVERY CHANCE YOU GET.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD FIND A REIKI PERSON AND GET A TREATMENT BEFORE YOUR SURGERY.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU1

HUGS

Nila,

I sympathize and I understand. I was diagnosed with thyroid nodules too last year. They don't bother me, but after the first ultrasound the the dr recommended a fine needle biopsy, which was "inconclusive". He recommended surgery since there was a chance of cancer. I opted to see another dr and do another ultrasound - she saw no reason to jump into surgery, and wants me to monitor it obviously. I don't know what your history is, but I was told the odds of malignancy are very small. It's a very personal decision, but I decided to wait and watch, esp after doing lots of reading on the subject. It's certainly a bit of a gamble, but the odds are pretty good so I hope for the best and if things change will do what I have to do.

Please pm me if you want someone else to bounce ideas off of.

Edited to add - I do have a good friend who had her thyroid removed several years ago. She had lots of trouble with it for years, and said she has felt so much better since.

You've definately got my prayers Nila! I know that if my thyroid keeps enlarging that surgery is in my future too(I can actually feel it when I swallow). Let me know how it goes.

Oh Nila, I'm so sorry! I know how scary it is to go in for surgury, and have all those questions! You did the right thing, and I'm glad that the doctor took the time to answer your questions. I'm here if you need to talk...you got my number!!!

Ohhh my heart goes out to you. I hate going to doctors also so know that part. I hope you have a real good surgeon and will be praying for a fast recovery for you. Hugs Mary

Thanks for thinking of me. Also, please add my sister to the prayer list. We were supposed to see each other on Saterday for a family dinner, and well, Friday night she was rushed to the Hospital straight from work by ambulance. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as well as I believe she will be having surgery also. (She is resting at home right now, but will most likely have to have surgery in the future to fix what is wrong. Sorry that I don't want to post it, but being in the horse industry, it's a small world, and it is not for me to tell everyone what it is, but sufice it to say that it will be a major surgery that will take time to heal from.)

And everyone else that is out there that is ill or hurt, you are in my prayers as well even if I don't post much as there is just way too much going on here for me to be reading the forum much lately. Hugs to you all!
