This is my husband Mike's new 5 year old, 53 inch, driving mare, Hey Pretty Lady. She is a large Hackney/Welsh pony cross. We bought her at the coolest driving auction in Madison last week. Probably 90% of the sellers and buyer were Amish or Mennonite. Prices were strong, with few horses going under $1,000 (normally Chesnuts, or God forbid, spotted horses!), and high seller $33,000 for a Draft GELDING! They like black or bay horses that can really move out. Prices really weren't influenced by registration papers, which I found to be interesting. Mike had back surgery a month ago, so it will be a while before he can drive her, plus her cart and harness will take a while to get here, but I think she will get alot of loving in the mean-time!
We will eventually breed her. If she is bred to a Shetland or Miniature, the offspring will be a National Show Pony. and can be up to 14.2 hands. American Show Ponies cannot go above 48 inches, and have to be Sheltland or Hackney blends. How cool is that! Pretty Lady is something very different for us, as our other drivers are 35, 36 and 29 inches!
Thanks for looking!
