Our new shed row barn wont have electricity or water run to it this year, so im looking for any ideas to make things a little easier.

I must admit, Ive always been pretty spoiled in this aspect. The one thing the old boarding barn did have was electricity, and hot and cold water.

My barn might be 150 yards from the house, so its not that far, but im sure in the winter it will seem like miles lol.

I didn't have water for quite a while and MAN! love having that now!

I don't have electricity. I use the little push-lights in my little barn. They give quite a lot of light. The stick-um stuff on the back is not worth a flip so you have to install them on a screw. Then I keep a good flashlight handy.

I am hoping to have electricity soon: hot water for bathing, refrigerator for perishable medicenes, a pole light for the corral, and a plug for clippers. Ah!

It's funny, but I thought if I can just get this old corral fixed so I could get a horse I'll be happy.

If I can just get a little barn to keep my stuff in I'll be happy.

If I can get the water line repaired to the corral I'll be happy.

Now, if I can get electricity to my barn and corral I'll be happy. I wonder what I'll need to make me happy after that?

I have had ordinary 100' extension cords for many years and they work well. One station would be 300'. Provides lights, clipper power, low wattage heaters to keep water from freezing etc. I raise/cover each cord connection so it stays dry.

We use extension cords, too for heated buckets, clippers, when the vet needs power for teeth floats, etc.

I was thinking solar lighting would be a great idea...but running an extension cord is an even better one. LOL! Make sure it is a good heavy-duty contractor grade though, as they heat-up less, and burn less electricity. As for water, we don't have water in our barn either, so I run a garden hose. I removed one of the basement windows, and had a plywood "shutter" installed where it was, with a small door that I can run the hose out. After the chores are done, I simply return the hose, and shut the little door.

LED lanterns are great for light when you are down there. Not much help here for water except in decent weather maybe get large barrels and fill them at house and take them down in truck.sometimes you can find or get them with spigots on them.Maybe an amish windmill with a pump and large storage tank like a fuel tank type.If you have any Amish near you they are very creative for living with no electricity.

At our old house there wasn't any power or water. So hubby fixed me up with a couple long contractor grade extension cord and a heavy duty hose. I would still have to lug water in the winter but it wasn't so bag with a couple horses.

Just becareful you don't run over the cords/hose with your lawn mower! I wrecked about one cord and two hoses.

invest in a couple of the water jugs with screw on caps that you can fill at house and take to barn....hose may be great now but, come winter these will be needed, plus a sled/wagon/etc.

Downspout & gutters on barn roof? collect water.

Do you have a generator? Many of us have them for emergency -- if so, store it in the barn!

LED lights work for nights when you need just a little light. There are solar ones out there but, they give precious little light without a larger collector than they normally are supplied. Plus cost factor. A plug in light could be kept charged at house to carry out with you!

Hose & extension are first thoughts. But, a shallow well may be just fine in your area!! Hand pump OR even a bucket/rope -- I've sure done my share of that.

more minis LOL !!!!!

I don't have water or power either. We use heavy duty orange cords in the winter for heated buckets and fans in summer. In summer we use hoses and covered containers. The cat litter containers are the right size to carry.

No hydro or water in ours either and doubt there ever will. We run heavy duty extension cords year round, this powers the light for the barn(inside) and our fan for the hot summer

as well as our heater for water in wintertime. We do have a solar powered shed light rigged up to in case of hydro outages.

As for water, i run a hose in above freezing temps in the winter... i haul by sled from the house. No that isn't easy but i deal. My main trough has a heater so i will only fill it and 'borrow' to bring water into the barn.
