I think our mini’s favorite item for amusement is our wheelbarrow. The Wheelbarrow in the eyes of a small equine is like a "box" from a real expensive toy for a small child. The wheelbarrow can be a great way to scratch your belly, bottom or neck, never mind the chewing potential. "Or" when your owner is trying to pick up poop it becomes a mecca for a community gathering for everyone to stick their big furry faces into (all at once) to smell that community smell of everyone's poop in one big pile and who know there might be something tasty. Of course while the community is gathering it is generally on top of the poop your owner is trying to pick up.

My mare's favorite toy is just a plain, empty water bottle (or even better with a little water left in it). Of course that may have something to do with the fact that she loves drinking any kind of beverage from a bottle - whether you want her to or not. I do treat her sometimes with her own Pepsi when she's been an especially good girl, but that doesn't stop her from trying to grab an unattended bottle, or even pestering an unsuspecting passerby who is trying to enjoy their own drink!

I can just picture a mini rolling around a water bottle, that is adorable!

Ditto with the wheel barrow. Mine just seem fascinated by the idea of me picking up their poop and moving it some place new =)

Another past time they enjoy is gathering around the hose during watering time. Unfortunately one of my hoses has developed leaks through out and the minis love walking through the accidentally made sprinkler. The babies will run through it like kids in the summer time. I know I need a new hose, but it is so entertaining to watch

My son left his plastic truck in the lot and my mom said 2 of the boys were playing with it,wish we had a picture

.They also like anything with a handle, wheelbarrow, rake etc. My mom taught Barney to get on a pedestal he will also try standing on a bale of hay, such a show off!

Now that would be worth a photo.

Hmmm...

-wheelbarrow

-shoes

-garbage cans

-manure forks

-rakes

-lead ropes

-water buckets

-rubber feed dishes

-brushes

-snow piles i make so they can jump in them

but they hate jolly balls and lickits!

thats all i can think of for now but they love to play with them all, id say the big metal garbage cans are their faves, maybe because they are shiny and reflective? or maybe its just it makes them feel destructive when they roll it down the hill side?

No doubt the large garbage can formy boy feather. He loved that thing when it was in his pen. He would roll it, run his butt on it, stick his head in it and lift it, pushing while being inside.lol Sucha goof ball.

All of the above plus one of the big fabric covered indestructible Horse Balls.

Kody's loved that one for years and Turbo took to it in about three minutes flat once introduced through clicker training to the concept of pushing it with his nose. He will run that thing until he is steamed clear through his winter coat so I have to be careful not to let him have it if I don't have time to dry him off.

The day after I taught him about the big ball I came out to find he'd applied the reasoning to the Jolly Ball that had been lying untouched in his paddock for months and ever since I've had to retrieve it from the other paddock every morning.

He quickly tried the old cones in the arena (one of those is now his "binky"), the cavaletti boxes, the cavaletti poles, and then he managed to knock over one of the big plastic drums one day and ever since he's been my Barrel Racer.

There were two out of my grid of nine barrels he'd knock down every day and roll until they got stuck against the fence but this week he graduated to all six of the plastic barrels in one morning. I thought I was going to die laughing when I came out and saw them all on their sides evenly spaced around the edge of the ring.

Hope he doesn't graduate to the three remaining metal barrels as their paint is peeling.

And of course both boys have a thing about pitchfork handles, lunge whips and the wheelbarrow. Kody's obsessed with his pedestal or anything I put on the ground for him to stand on but that's less a toy and more an opportunity to show off.

Oh, I forgot their FAVORITE toy...each other!!

Saber's fav would have to be his Buster Cube

(which is a strong plastic treat dispensing cube for dogs)

which he only gets now and then.

Other than that he likes a giant standing plush horse we dubbed Pony-occhio,

a bean bag chair (his 1st one finally died so we got him a new one),

a older style child's busy box attached to the side of his stall (after 2 yrs he's finally broken the handle of it)

and a exercise ball.

His favorite animate object of amusement is his best friend, Rooster (a Great Dane)

Well, I had a real cute pic of her drinking out of my son's Gatorade bottle, but it won't upload.

Sorry

Currently my little herds favorite source of amusement is watching me trying to walk through 2 feet of snow to pet them and feed them
default_smile.png
I swear they were laughing this morning when I got stuck and fell. When your only 5.1 and trying to trudge through snow that deep it is pretty funny. Dancer immediately came over and started sniffing me and giving me the "why dont you get up?" and the "make it snappy cus Im hungry" look.

They both like their jolly ball. Although i admit the colt has taken a strong liking to dumping my tubtrug when full

here these are tubtrugs, basically a type of bucket that is highly flexible so it kinda bounces back

Kaykay that was such a great visual. You just made my day! Only because I have been there.

My two year old stallion plays all day with a large buoy. A really big buoy like you would moor a boat to. He jumps on it and pushes it all around the pasture at a dead run. Turns around and kicks at it with both feet. Puts on quite a display
default_biggrin.png
I video taped one of his daily performances with my camera - but can't figure out how to post it. He gives himself a very good work out - wish all my horses would do it - what a fit group I would have then!

One of my stallions favorite toys is his jolly ball. He rolls all over it, plays soccer with it and also tosses it outside the fence when I am out mowing grass. Then he will stand there and look at me as if to say " well, come on, throw it back" He is very comical!

My yearling filly has a mini dog sized jolly ball hanging in her stall.

Little tiny orange cones in each pasture for everyone to play with.

And the cat when crossing pastures, poor little guy has to run as every mini gives chase.

Hula hoops!!! My minis love them!! They can pick them up, move them around, play tug of war with them, and occasionally can be seen with one around their body (which doesn't bother them at all).

I also have an empty milk jug tied on my stallions stall divider which he just loves to play with. I could even hear him playing with it in the middle of night over the baby monitor when on mare stare!!

Where do you get the fabric-covered horse balls?
I'd like to know as well - I had a site bookmarked to order them awhile back, and have lost it. They were fairly pricey, hence the reason I didn't order at the time lol, but I'm ready to buy one and can't locate them now.
