I took some registration pics. of one of my boys today, nothing fancy by an means (neither is he lol he's been leased out, I realize he's a chubby boy, he's being put on a diet), but should they be acceptable?

Here are the ones I'd be sending in:

Actually they may not accept the side views as the horse's face is supposed to be facing the photographer so that the full face is in view with forelock pulled aside like in the front view...also in the rear view the right hind leg is covered by his tail, though he has white legs so they might take that one.

Also you should include an extra one with his mane pulled aside to show the white markings under the mane.

Actually in the one photo he does have his head turned some, and I think that is enough to make the photo acceptable to the registry. In the rear view photo that one leg is somewhat hidden, but is also somewhat visible & I expect that it would pass.

Last fall I had some photos (rear view) that I wasn't sure would pass--I thought they were a bit dark and didn't show one hind leg good enough--I didn't feel like going out & taking more photos so I sent in what I had and all were accepted.

I've seen some photos that others have sent in, and have to say that I don't think I need to be nearly as particular as I have been when it comes to getting the horse posed "just so"!

Okay thanks everybody, like I said he's being leased right now and it's about a 1/2 hour drive there and he'd need another bath so I really hope these pictures are okay. I'll send them in and if some aren't acceptable I guess I'll have to go get more.

Shelly- Why do you think the horses head should be turned toward you? I have been told the horse needs to be facing forward. If the head was always toward you, there could be some very important markings that they would never see especially on a pinto. The front view will give them all the face markings and I know they recommend you move the forelock back so they can see the whole face.

I did have one horse that I had a heck of a time getting a picture where the tail wasn't covering a rear leg. They did accept the one I sent, but they could see the color of the legs from the other views. I did have a red and white gelding I ended up pulling his tail aside for an extra picture because otherwise markings would be hidden.

Yes I would send the extra picture with the mane pulled aside. They will keep these extra photos on file.

Echo Acres, these are the instructions taken off the AMHR registery info for taking pictures for registration.

Left Side – full standing left profile from ears to hooves and nose to tail; in either right or left side photos,

animals head should be turned toward photographer to show full face and forelock should be off to one

side so that face markings are not obscured; legs should be positioned so that the inside of the right side

legs show – not placed together as they might be in setting up to show in the ring; animal should be

standing on a surface that allows full view of hooves; head should not be turned away from

photographer; the majority of the photo should be of the animal being registered. The animal may have a

halter on and should be groomed/clean so that color and markings show correctly.

Right Side – full standing right profile from ears to hooves and nose to tail; in either right or left side

photos, animals head should be turned toward photographer to show full face and forelock should be off

to one side so that face markings are not obscured; legs should be positioned so that the inside of the right

side legs show – not placed together as they might be in setting up to show in the ring; animal should be

I've always sent in pictures with the horse looking straight ahead and they are accepted. After all, they get a face shot, why does the horse's face have to be toward the photographer in all of the pictures?

LOL I was taking reg pics for one of my horses and we did the profile shots - head shots ect and for some reason I didnt think to take his normal halter off. The horse is a bay sabino with white socks. In some he was wearing a leather halter with sheepskin fuzzies on the nose and cheek peices well the crown to actually he was wearing a shipping halter and not only did they accept them but those are the ones they chose to put on his papers

you just never know what they will accept

I made that as a general comment, not directed at you, luv2ride...

I know what the "rules" say, but what R accepts is a different story, thankfully. In the case of the OP's horse, if the horse's face was always toward the photographer, we'd never be able to see the white on his chin like we can in the profile pictures. I just don't understand the reasoning for always making the horse look into the camera.

Thanks everyone for your posts! I'll be sending these pictures in, I can let you guys know if they do get accepted or not.

I now know what the rules say but I was wondering because I've seen AMHR registered horse's pics. on their papers and none of them had their heads turned. I didn't get the side pictures with his head turned because I've never seen them like that and I would think that they'd want him standing with his head straight ahead so you can see the markings that you wouldn't be able to see with his head turned, cause the face pictures show his face, so I too am now confused about that.

I love the head shot picture, he is very handsome

Good grief! I sure am glad I read this thread. I am still new to these registries, and I have contorted my body in so many uncomfortable positions, argued with my spouse, and generally wanted to scream trying to get the *just right* registration pictures according to the rules. Full side view with the horse facing forward, not toward the camera makes much more sense. My poor thighs were so sore from squating to get my *Holy Kamaole* to look at me that I could not walk up my deck stairs the next day. He was aptly named as he hates the camera!
