What are some of your phobias, fears or revulsions?

My main phobia is a common one. I'm scared of heights. Even if I'm watching a movie and there's a scene involving heights, I get the jello-jointed-weak-kneed feeling. To be honest, it can even happen playing a video game

My revulsion is for bugs, specifically beetle type bugs. I am not actually afraid of them since I don't think they will hurt me, but when I see one, it feels like a scream just wells up in my throat (no, I don't usually scream but I do squeaky kind of thing) and just such an intense feeling about how disgusting they are. I'd touch almost anything with my bare hands (like even dog poopy!) before I'd touch a beetle bug.

What about you all? What are your phobias, etc.?

Heights, crowded spaces, for my phobias.

I have a lot of little revulsions..I hate my food touching (ewww), I dont' like being the second one to use a shower (all that leftover cold water everywhere), any form of human excretement including puke (although an animal's does not bother me), dirty hands (I'm constantly trying to clean them at the barn), need I go on? LOL

Cows! I'm pretty much terrified of cows. I like baby cows, but big cows scare the dickens out of me. I make myself touch at least one every year through the bars at the exhibition, and its a pretty big deal. The trouble is, I would LOVE to have a riding horse and cattle pen with all my equestrian friends.

As for revulsions they are probably pretty standard. Bad food smells, and the sound of breaking bones (live or in movies) I can handle all the blood and gore you want to throw at me, but turn the sound off!

I was thinking about this last nite..funny.

I am absolutely hysterical about "bats, human lice, and lighting propane fire". I have 2 propane heaters I just "cannot" bring myself to light even tho I've always done it each year. Since I was burned I just can't seem to get it done and I don't need a stupid match....just can't do it, so I'll have to pay someone.

OH yea....I cannot and will not fly.... :new_shocked:

Mice it used to be dead or alive but now I can look at a dead one but a live one sends me running not that I think it will hurt me just cant stand the sight of them. Hence more cats than I need around here. I had one on my face as a child and it bit me on the face and I cant stand to even see them now. And rats are just a big form of a mouse also dont like gerbils or hampsters for the same reason.

Having had 3rd degree burns I also am afraid of fire. I can sit at a campfire but a bonfire stirs the fear. Nothing I can help. I am very careful with fire.

well, I am scared to death of birds....big ones, little ones, better now with ones that happen to fly by outside but terrified of live chickens... love to decorate with chickens in my kitchen for that farmy feel but I cant be near the real things. I had a panic attack walking thru the poultry barn at the fair! That and mice dead or alive. Not so much a fear of them but the revulsion thing....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww and my cats and dachshunds think I am thrilled when they lay the dead things at my feet! ewwwwwwwwww again!

I have many, along with some other crazy insane things I deal with (my family says sometimes i remind them of that tv show "Monk") but my main phobia is... June Bugs.

I can barely talk about it without starting shake.

Ugh.

Mine would be thunderstorms and bees! Just the thought of a bee makes me nervous! :new_shocked:

I have lots of minor phobias:

small spaces especially tunnels or small rooms

rats are a biggie for me

snakes

bees and wasps

heights such as being on the side of a cliff...but I will fly

crowded spaces such as wal mart

bones crunching still gets to me even though I work in the operating room

human eyeballs such as in eye surgery yuck yuck yuck

Ironically enough, I am not afraid of the dark!

I can brace myself to face my fears temporarily, but only with mental coaching.

If caught off guard, I will FREAK when exposed to my fears...

I have one heck of a phobia of snakes!!!!! I get goose bumps just thinking about them.

Also, i have a phobia of talking infront of my peers. I dont think its a PHOBIA but its a strong strong fear.

Snakes and spiders are my big ones! :new_shocked: I can't stand the sight of either. If there's a spider in the house I will have someone else kill it for me. I've been known to have my 3 yr old son kill spiders for me

I get claustrophobic if Jason holds me at night and pins both legs or arms. I just can't stand it. The sound of bones breaking or crushing makes me cringe. I can handle most anything else though. :bgrin

I have a problem with heights. I used to love to climb things like lighthouses and such, but now, if I start climbing, i get to a certain point and my legs just freeze up on me and I cling to the handrail. I have to turn around and go back down, but trying to get "un-clung" from the handrail is not easy.

I also HATE the big black spiders that come into our house. If they are little, I can stomp them, but the bigger ones, I just have to scream and run away from them.

I don't like flying, but might do it if I am going to a fun place. The few times I have flown, I ended up puking a few hours after being back on the ground.

That's all I can thing of for now.

Oh yeah......I can't go to the local Shop-Rite. Have panic attacks if I even get too close to the building.

These days I have lots, seem to all show up when things are not good.

My biggest phobia is hypodermic needles.

My minor fears are of cows (never had a problem until I was attacked by one), parrots (other birds are fine), heights, pickled things (actually I think it's the vinegar smell), watch tans (this maybe falls under obsessive compulsive?), and multiplication tables (bad memories in third grade).

ok mine are also lighting heaters, my husband always has to do it, and once in a while when i HAVE to light the camp shower myself, i am almost hyperventilating... the shower has to be lit, but i'll pile on blankets before i will light the camp heater...

and needles. shots of any kind are very difficult to handle. and i absolutely HATE going to the dentist!

i also have a weird kind of claustrophobia, small spaces do not bother me but crowds do, i would rather be stuck in an empty elevator than one with a bunch of people in it. and don't even ask me to go to the mall, especially this time of year. (however i don't mind being surrounded by my minis at treat time, go figure!) also my feet are claustrophobic, i have to be able to move my legs around while riding in a vehicle, and tight shoes are impossible...

i do not mind flying, but i hate taking off and landing...

as for revulsion, COCKROACHES, especially the big sewer ones we have here... once i was sitting in the bathroom (yes on the pot) and pulled the toilet paper, it spun around and one flew out and LANDED ON MY BARE LAP. :new_shocked: :new_shocked: OMG you never heard such screaming! those are NASTY bugs!!

That just reminded me....I absolutely hate cockroaches too!

I was raised around the Houston area (near the coast, rains alot, always wet) and oh my gosh they have the BIGGEST flying cockroaches.

If you kill one, the sound it makes as its body is smashed is just sooo sickening.

GAG I think I am going to be sick now.

Caves!
default_unsure.png
: Can't stand to go into them but then I haven't flown because of my fear of being enclosed...not the heigth. Even watching T.V. where someone is in a cave makes me feel uncomfortable. In years past I would do everything I could to avoid using elevators but getting better about that. Also have fear of going into show rings or being in front of a lot of people. Most repulsive thing is vomit of some one who has been drinking booze!

Yip,,,,,,just cotton.

Can not stand to touch it, feel it and to hear it being torn apart or seperated makes my skin crawl, probably like those who have fears of snakes.

I can't get to medicine in a bottle on my own, cause I can't stand to hear the cotton being pulled out of the bottle.

By the way,,,,,,,,,,,,this is a true fear.
default_yes.gif
: Had it since I was little. I would scream when nurses came at me with a cotton swab and a needle,,,,,,,,yeah, they thought it was because of the needle.
