Hello, I had asked for help with this little guy's color before. Someone answered with bay tovero and I agreed until I clipped him today. His knees have a really silver tint to them. Could he be a silver dapple?

His tail has a strip of really dark black and one strip of a smokey black in his forlock.

I am including a before shot and two afters. Both of his eyes are blue. Help Please!! Debbie

I don't know if he is "Bay" or not....but he is definitely not Silver Dapple.

I can't see the colored parts of his mane & tail in those shots.....so can't see if they are truly black (where there's no white markings) or not.

In "foal coat"...the lower legs of a bay are usually a silvery gray color. Their lower legs will turn black gradually, as they age. Bays usually clip out very dark also (almost black).

Thanks Dona. Could he possibly be a smokey black? His sire is black and white and his dam is very dark I would say very, very dark bay or black.

If you really have dark in the mane and tail, I don't think it's silver dapple. Something else must be going on. The dark knees are consistant with a bay though. I can't see the mane and tail in the pictures but what I can see sure makes him look like a silver bay tovero.

Yes...it's possible he is a "Smokey Black"....but only IF one of his parents is actually a Smokey Black. Do you know if there are any creme carriers behind them? (palomino, buckskin, cremello, etc.)

Just from the pictures (and seeing his forelock color, if that is his non-pinto white color) he looks to be a silver dapple or a silver bay to me.

Is the non-white pinto parts of his mane and tail BLACK or are they silvery?

Andrea

Hi Andrea, His mane and tail are mainly white, but he does have a definate black strip down the middle of his tail and a smokey black(could be possibly sun bleached) strip in his forlock.
