In response to an earlier post about blanketing year round..... Their is a common misconception that blanketing will help slow down hair growth. This is completely false. Hair growth has to do with daylight, you can blanket all you want but it will not stop hair growth, not even a bit. That is why horses start shedding in february when it is still freezing, because the days start getting longer. It is also why horses start growing coat in August, the hottest month, because the days start getting shorter. The only reason your horse looks to be less hairy when blanketed, is because the blanket smoothes it, it flattens the normal "fluff"(which by the way, the fluff helps keep them warm in the winter).
