Hi,

I am trying to look up about ivermectin wormer as doing it repeat at 2 weeks or 3 weeks to get rid of lice.

I did call my vet and they told me it is okay do it repeat at 2 weeks but I want to be double check. ;)

If anyone have a better idea how to get rid of lice and that will be great.

Also what kind of powder you use to kill the lice too?

Thanks!

Hi

Dose with Ivermectin then repeat 2 weeks later then repeat AGAIN 2 weeks after that! I also dust the entire topline with a lice powder. The Ivermectin will only kill the "sucking" type lice but the powder will get the "biting" kind too! I have had to follow this and it works like a charm!

Good luck!

Permectrin II works really well to get rid of lice, it is a spray that actually works against flys and other pests as well...you can mix it as a spray for horses or to spray on and around buildings too. We absolutely love using it but obviously it has to be a little warmer since it is a liquid. We also have a powder that we use that works really well but it is out in the barn so I will check what it is called when I go out in a couple of hours.

Hi,

I have another question - I have Bronco "Equine Fly Spray" and is that safe to use on the miniatures?

It will kill lice, tick, chigger, gnats and flies, mosquitoes..

Is it safe?

I would think that would be fine since it is made for horses, it doesnt really matter big or small as long as it is equine.

I would not trust Ivermectin to get rid of lice, it should help but, in fact, I have never known it actually get rid of lice, maybe it helps as a preventative, and I know it works in sarcoptic mange in dogs and the injectable and pour on work in cattle, but I have never been convinced that Ivermectin gets rid of lice!!

I would go with a topical preparation, it is tried and tested to work.

This works well. It will kill sucking and biting and the adults and hatching lice. If you do it like this it will totally eradicate the lice

I also powder again after two weeks for the newly hatching lice.

my mom used to use sevin dust on the chickens and parakeets and such, and it always got rid of them. SO, for the horses, I use Ivermectin, and dust them with Sevin. I have never had a problem using sevin on them.

ALways check with the vet before you use any home remedy type stuff
