Gov Schwarzenegger just made a pretty darned profound statement. He said that John McCain spent more time in a POW camp than Barack Obama has been in politics. Struck a chord with me.

Something we all knew but I sure didn't think about. Thanks Arnold!

Did he mention how long McCain was in actual combat... ???????From what I can find... less than four months...

Well that would have been 4 months longer than Obama then wouldn't it?

It was long enough to make him a patriot in my eyes. He served his country and came home a hero. That means a LOT to some of us.

Did it ever occur to you that it only takes one flight to be shot down?????

Being shot down makes one a hero..??? with enough military experience to lead the country. I don't think so... Your mailman probably spend more time fighting in NAM.. My dads ship was sunk out from under him in WW2. None of those fellows became national heros..

McBunz anyone who made the sacrifices necessary to serve in battle is a hero in my eyes and I didn't say that being shot down qualified him to be president. As I recall I didn't ask you to agree with me as it hardly matters one way or the other. Please extend my thanks to your father for his service to our country.

I think anyone who has served our country whether they were drafted or enlisted are heroes. My husband was in the Korean Conflict, You know the forgotten war. There was less thanks to them for their service than any other war. They are all heroes in my eyes.

Oh I thought you meant the other remark

"I want to invite Mr. Obama, he needs to do something about those skinny legs," Schwarzenegger said. "We're going to make him do some squats and some biceps curls to beef up those scrawny little arms. If only we could put some meat on his ideas

Good thing Arnold has his own plane!

yeah and NAM soldiers got very little praise as well..its just been in the last several years. my dad talks about coming home from NAM and how you couldn't even wear your uniform on US soil because you'd get spit on or worse... pretty sad!

You're right Boinky; the returning Viet Nam veterans were treated like dirt. They didn't deserve to be so disrespected for serving our country. It makes me ashamed of those times.

My DH is a Viet Nam veteran and his plane got shot down and he was a POW. It was horrible and he still has nightmares. Your so right Donna, They were treated like dirt and crap and they didn't for sure deserve to be so disrespected for serving our country.

They are all heros.

Joyce please tell your husband a grateful American said thank you for his service. I'm just sorry it was so long coming.

I didn't enlist until after Viet Nam but I've met a lot of veterans of several wars. Their stories were both amazing and horrifying; and I know they were by no means telling me the worst of things.

Thank you Donna, I will forsure tell him. My Dad was in WW2 and some of the stories he told would make the hair stand up on my neck. My DH tells stories, but doesn't tell of the grusome parts like my Dad did. I only over hear him when he is talking to his friends that were also over there. Its enough to make you sick. My Brother was also in the service but he always stayed state side.

I praise the troops who have valiantly fought for OUR FREEDOM in a foreign country where they probably felt out of place and have paid the ultimate price for us.

Sounds kinda like the last election, when John Kerry ran against Bush. Bush and Rove and the swift boat vets did everything they could to tear down his good name. They came out later and said they lied. Did Bush go to war??? Nope. A lot of you think he is wonderful. What did he do? His dad got him excused so he could stay out and do drugs and drink. Then he lied and started a war and has killed over 4000 heroes to America. More than 9/11.

Joyce thank your husband and father for serving our country. Donna thank you for your service. I am one American who is VERY proud of our military.

I have two brothers who were in Nam and my hubby was in Korea.

We have grandchildren who are/were in the service now. We are quite proud of all of them.

what difference does it make which one went to war and who did not . does not make any difference to me at all . as for the remark i dont find anything wroung with him saying it . but i would like to say thank you to everyone here who has or there familly has served
