I grew up in the Pentecostal faith. Wasn't as restricted as some, wore pants, makeup, could cut my hair. But no dances, movies, etc. Church 3 times a week, long services.

Needless to say, I haven't been to church in a very long time. Every church I have tried in the 20 plus yrs. away, I didn't feel comfortable.

Well, there is a very small, new cowboy church in our area, and I've been by a few times but didn't have the nerve to go. Last week at our Christmas in Grapeland event, the church folk were there so I spoke with them.

Anyway.....the kids and I went to church last Sunday and it was nice. Everyone was friendly, it is very casual, and I think we will go back.

I ordered the cutest bible from Barnes and Noble, it is denim and has a little pocket. I got one with "regular wording" so the kids might relate to the readings more.

I may never be one speak the word to all I meet, but I feel good that we went.

Just wanted to share.

God doesnt care what you wear..... Jesus wore a dress and sandals! Glad you found what may become your new church home. While its true that you can worship anywhere, sometimes we a re like coals in a fire....when we are all together we can stay red hot, when we are set aside alone sometimes the ember cools and can go out. A church family is like that...support to keep our fires of faith burning. I grew up and still attend an anabaptist church. That is a menonite spinoff.....like the menonites and amish are from the same root as we are. I wasnt as strict either cut my hair , wore pants etc.... bad when you are the elders daughter but as I got older and my parents also aged, they began to realize that those things didnt change who I was inside and that I still loved the Lord . I married a man also from our faith and we raise our 3 children in this faith..... the girls married boys from it, other churches but still the same group, and hoping my son gets married soon too.... come on Jason you are already 27 for crying out loud. Anyway. Our little church here in Richmond is probably more "liberal" than my dads in Syracuse but our faith is all still the same. Love God with all your heart soul and mind and your neighbor as your self. These are the comandments Jesus left us...... If you find a church family that feels that way then take them to heart.

Oh wow! I grew up in the Pentecostal church. But ours was the Apostolic Pentecostal: no pants, makeup, cutting hair for girls; boys DID cut their hair; no drinking, dancing, movies, TV, Christmas trees; church 3x a week + youth service on Friday night.

Yes it was strict, but I believe it laid down a great foundation with good morals and a strong RIGHT/WRONG mentality.

I'm glad you found a church you can feel comfortable in. At least you have the fellowship of others.

Cowboy churches are great aren't they? We have one in Enumclaw, WA and it's most fun I had in years visiting the Lord's house.

I agree minimule that the church did lay a foundation of morals. But it also made me feel like a had to be doing everything right before I could go back to church. I know this is not the way to think, but it is something I struggle with.

I am just sick that I gave away my riding horses this fall, after my third broken rib!
