What areas are you thinking of looking at? (I don't know where you live NOW, so don't know what a 30 to 40 minute commute would be.)

We have very close friends who used to live in Bend and wanted us to move up to the Chehalis/Centralia area with THEM. They kept sending us info on several very pretty properties up there. All of them had at least 20 acres, house, and either a barn or outbuildings and they were actually very reasonable!

We ended up moving just northeast of Bend by about 30 miles.........couldn't bare leaving the high desert.

We live and work in Renton/Kent area so Orting, Ravensdale, Graham, Roy and outer Mongolia

: is about as far as I'm willing to commute but hubby does not want to go out that far unless he's completely retired. I may even think east like Port Orchard, Gig Harbor and Bremerton/Silverdale areas as there still seems to be a lot of acreage within reason.

Roy is looking pretty good at about 45 miles but that's kind of pushing it, but for the right place...

Good luck in your search, atleast with the rainy weather you can tell what areas are useable & what are "waterfront" properties, even if they aren't supposed to be.

Wow, 45 mile commute? That would just about do me in I think, I think my 20 miles 1 way is bad enough daily.

I liked the little place you found, it was rustic but had character, too bad there wasn't enough useable land.

Good luck & keep us posted on what ya find. :bgrin

Shirley becareful of Port Orchard. That is where we used to live... more in the Burley area, on Pine rd.

Watch out for Meth places,, because there are a lot of them. Hate to say this but when you look at what ever land, if you can go at different times of the day,, do a lot of sniffing....and even talk with the neighbors.

Gig harbor on the whole, is a pretty snobby place. Nice little town.....but lots of snobs.

Since you ride,,, trying to find land near a tree farm would offer you trails to ride. Normally Tree farm passes cost $25.00 a year and they have lots of nice wide paths and trails.

Good luck in your land search!

PS....when we lived over there...on a couple of his jobs he had to drive 2 hours one way just to get to work! :new_shocked: Glad he only has to drive 1 hour to get to work now!!

Hay,,,did they ever finish the new narrows bridge?

Thanks for the warning Shari, that is one of my biggest fears to end up with a place that has meth lab contamination. I'm not sure if they have finished the bridge yet though. Definatley a consideration for travel time but if I was out that way I could vanpool.

I'm going to have to check out those tree farms, never knew they had trails available, how cool is that?
