Temporary to Permanent AMHA & AMHR Registrations

I am really glad that everyone is soooooo up to date on their registering or I wonder if you are the only ones that answered?????

I got behind this year due to circumstances beyond my control...............and there are probably some I sold that have not been brought permanent. Do you check on the ones you have sold to see if they have been brought permanent?

Judy, since I know you ....I know that this year has been a nightmare for you.....so good kind people don't be hard on Judy.....if you had to do what she does by herself I think you might be behind too.

I think the prices are somewhat high for late bringing to permanent especially compared to AMHR. It does put an incentive to put them in on time, but I personally wish that it wasn't doubled.............makes it hard on those who have a reason for not getting it done.

Well the more I think about this and look again at the fees for what is frankly reregistering an already registered horse I think the proposal should be for a reduction in fees permanently not just a grace period. An administration fee for handling and recording the permanent registration and pictures with new certificate such as the AMHR has is all that should be required. Why should a stallion cost more than a mare? for temp to perm. paperwork is the same as is the paperwork for a gelding

Why a stallion costs more then a mare?

Because like I said in my eariler post AMHA does a good job in trying to promote geldings. In AMHR it costs you to transfer over a stallion to a gelding whether in AMHA it doesn't cost you a dime. They are just wanting people to geld more of their colts thus making the fee higher for a stallion to discourge people owning stallions. We have plenty. Yes mares do breed, which is why they are also higher then a gelding, but unlike a stallion a mare can't have like 20 babies every year.

I stand by what AMHA is doing, I think at all honesty it is a good idea. Yes their might be some that not get updated and what not, that just means they cant produce any babies after 5 until their papers are UTD. Just means us horse owners need to make sure and do our homework before looking at any horse and make sure their papers are UTD. That is our responsibility.

The reason AMHA charges more to take a stallion permanent is because the Gelding Incentive Fund gets the extra $50 from each stallion. The way I look at it, is if your breeding a stallion that isn't worth $60 to take permanent then maybe you shouldn't be breeding that stallion (you meaning anyone in general, not anyone in particular). If you sell foals then it should more than cover the cost for taking your stallion permanent. This was done to not only help the Gelding Incentive Fund but to hopefully get people to really look at their stallions before breeding them. I know it won't stop anyone who wants to breed, but it does make people sit up and take notice.

I support the AMHA wholeheartedly...I really did not mean to put them down. I have been a member since I started 12 years ago and out of the 24 horses that I presently own I have brought 15 horses that I purchased from other people to permanent with AMHA as well as 4 of my own breeding. I will continue to support them. This was just an obviously lame idea I had to get more people to bring their horses permanent. I will continue as I always have to bring those that I still own permanent. Being late with these 3 that I still own and that are past due just made me aware of the extreme expense for the late fees and it is no person's fault but my own. I think that is great that $50 of the stallion fee goes to the Gelding Incentive.

I am very particular about the paperwork involved with both the miniatures and shetlands here at our farm and all horses paperwork are done accordingly including the stallion reports and breeding certificates as needed. Anything I hate worse is a paperwork mess and that is one question when purchasing horses is that the papers are in order. I work in quality control at my day job and paperwork being done and submitted correctly is a big deal for me both at my day job and here at the farm.
