1:30 and the vet just left. Complete exam, blood, stool squish(good water intake), founder check (no founder :aktion033: ) she definitely has an ulcer. Jessie felt it in the same spot I did. We will keep her on the meds CARAFATE for 8 wks alternating the pills and Marty's generous GastroGuard. No feed for 6 wks just hay and carrots.

You should see her, heck I'll take pics soon. She's lost at least 20 lbs. Today she is out wandering and eating her hay, giving Halley heck for bugging her. Jessie says the meds are kicking it and keep it up 4xd.

Thera does have quite a bruise in her off side front but no founder. I'll be soaking it in epsom salts daily just so it doesn't absess. I cannot tell you the deep thrill I feel knowing she will get better in time. My thanks to you all for being with me thru this. Now I just have to keep up the carafate 6am, noon, 6pm and midnite.

She does need a equine dentist (thank you Bonnie), Jess did find some sharps on the left. I'll be doing that in a bit, she suggested letting the meds work for a bit longer so as not to upset her ulcer with the procedure so I'll see if he can come when the farrier does (around the 19th) so it can be all done and over.

Thank you all so much.

Just a special thanks to RobinTrueJoy for calling me and telling me about this drug for Thera, bless your generous heart, I swear you saved us both. Dr Jessie had not used it in minis before and now she knows and maybe it will help another.

Also to Marty, you amazing person you, for calling and sending me some GastroGuard. Using both meds will heal her tummy ulcer and make me feel better too.

:aktion033: So glad to hear that she is doing better, and that it can be healed. Such a scary thing, not knowing how to help the little guys. Hugs coming to both you and Thera.

glad to hear things are looking up!!

I am curious though, why will there be no feed for 6 weeks? Having had an ulcer, having food in my stomach seemed to help the pain. Also is there any comcern for hyperlipidemia, since she won't be eating except for hay? I fed my colt when he had his ulcer, but I am no a vet. I am just so glad that Thera will be all better soon!!!!!!

Glad you've figured it out and that she's getting better.

I need to find an easy to digest feed. I always felt Strategy was but she wasn't so sure. Any suggestions?

I am a huge fan of senior pelleted feeds. I use Manna Senior. It is easy to digest, easy to chew. It was recommneded to me buy New Bolten Center(U of Pa) after a colic episode.

I use it all the time for all the horses, adjusting the amount to the horse. The horses love it. Their weight is good and they look good. Works for me. Maybe other will have suggestions.

Hugs for Thera!! :saludando:

Oh Deb, I'm so glad to hear that Thera will be ok :aktion033:

Hi Deb! I'm glad to hear Thera is OK. I've been offline trying to get online fighting with this dang new computer. Linda B

YAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Debs....wow...just thank goodness!!! Carafate is a wonderful thing and saved my Angel girl. The vet had me change over to something...but I don't remember what. I am thinking it was Triple Crown Complete but am not 100% sure.

I am SO happy for you and Thera and Haley!

Most all the senior feeds are made for easy digestion. We have used a lot of it and like it very well. Good to hear she is doing well! Mary

Debs I'm so glad to hear that she is doing better. Whooo hooooo!! :488:

Glad to hear Thera is on the road to recovery.

I feed Blue Seal Trotter here and have for years to my minis. Never had a problem with the feed.

Better knock on wood for it to continue.

So glad your girl is on the mend - ulcer treatment seems to make a difference in such a hurry. As to digestible feeds, I'd agree on the Senior feeds. I have two colic surgery survivors, one who is chronically colicky, who get nothing but Equine Sr and alfalfa and have done beautifully on it. The mare has only colicked since when she's gotten hold of coastal hay.

Thank God Debs I'm so happy for you I'm tearing up. Give Thera a big sloppy kiss on the muzzle from me. I'm so glad she's going to be ok!
