I've been looking on the net for something to do some serious showing with. There are not many open shows around here and i want to do some 'serious' showing. I found this guy a couple weeks ago and called the lady, she has been calling me and keeping me updated on him. I want him to show in Halter, Driving and Showmanship (might give that one another try this year, didnt go to well last year).

I asked the lady if i could post a picture of him, she said it was fine with her.

* 2 years old

* AMHR 'Brighty'

* 33'

*Liver Chestnut

Here is what she said about him on the site..

Brighty is a wonderful little guy. My favorite on on the farm!! He is a beautiful Liver Chestnut gelding with a blaze and 2 blue eyes that jump out at you. He won Grand and Reserve champion Halter Gelding and succeded in winning showmanship and obstical. Shown by an 8 yr old girl. He has started cart training and is driving beautifully!!

Does he look show quality to you?? It looks like he would do fine to me, but you guys are the ones who have been doing this for a while so just thought i would ask.

Dad knows i've been looking for something like this and said that he would throw in $300 on it if i paid the rest, which i have in my account now that i've been saving for about 7 month now. I've looked at 3 or 4 other's for show, but i knew i could get better quality. He is really sticking in my mind though for some reason. It would be a christmas present because we have to finish the other 2 stalls.

Let me answer that from all my wisdom of minis for you. " Oh, pretty!" LOL That is all my knowledge rolled up in two words.

Is there any way to get a couple of photos of him without his head turned? From what I can see he looks to be a pretty, well balanced horse and if he truly is a liver chestnut, he will be QUITE flashy with that bald face when he sheds out. He looks to have decent hip on him, nice depth to his girth, good shoulder and his legs APPEAR straight, though again, hard to tell in all that grass.

If he does have all of the finish on him that is listed, he seems to be well priced.... try to get a few more photos of him and if you would like, email them to me and I will be better able to critique him. I know that $1000 is a lot of money for you and that the purchase you make must be the best you can make....

How is your nice, new little mare getting along?

Angel is doing fine. She has taken up with the barn kittens, she doesnt care much for the other horses. Some people told me that she would be fine out with Coco (Rocky & Joey play just a bit to rouph, Striker is a stud so NO WAY). She didnt let Coco anywhere near her so i put her up because i knew where this was going ...big fight ext. I was hoping that her foal would be my AMHR show mini but thats a while off ..like 3 years.

Vet also checked her out Thursday, He said she is 2 month along in her pregnancy and gave us a diet plan for Coco to use when summer comes around.

I will email the lady in a bit to get more pictures of him. She said on the phone this picture was him in his full winter coat. She said he never really got all fuzzy, so she never had a need to clip him (which is good, i dont like clipping!!!

). I will ask her for more pictures and will post them.

**Please do critique.**

I want my money to be well spent well ..he is pretty i think, but i promised myself i would spend this money on something for showing only so no room for mistakes here.

I want to see his mane, that is very important to me. I like long full manes, not short stubby manes and bridle paths half 1 foot long.

I will see if she has any other pictures.

From what I could see of him, even with his head turned, he should be competitive as a show gelding.....

You need to locate your Ohio miniature horse club because they are the ones puting on the shows in your general area.

Leeana, I know that you want an opinion on this guy

But its against the rules to post someone elses horse on the forum and ask for a critique, its against the rules to post him anyways.

Why not concentrate on one of the MANY horses you have. Sorry Leeana, but I don't think that buying a "show horse" will get you anywhere.

I bought Peanut as a rescue, registered him ((hardship with my own money)) trained him MYSELF and now he is quite the competition to beat in my area.

Yes l also thought it was against the rules to critique a horse you didn't own.

When i talked to the lady this afternoon i asked her if i could post the picture for this reason, she said that it would be fine ..so i wouldnt worry about it. She is aware of this thread and she should be stopping by soon to ...im getting her to join lilb.

Realy with what i have now ..here are the only ones that i could show, in open shows.

Coco

Joey

Striker

Out of 5 ..not to manny really and not to many open shows and as far as they could get i wouldnt do much beyond the fair's around here. I want something that is just all about showing ..such as this guy or something like him.

theres the bigger picture. Now yes I like him & i think he has good comformation & a wonderful colour, But do you need him? $1000 is a fair amount of money.. If you hardship Coco or who ever, you have a reg.d show horse... JMO, think about it

Sorry Leeana, but I think you have ENOUGH on your plate.

The way I see it, PERFECT each horses training before starting on a new one. You have 3 horses to show, thats MORE then enough. Trust me, its hard enough with 2!!!!

Leeana, I REALLY don't like the way you handle the buying of horses. Personally, I think that unless you are a PROFFESIONAL trainer, and are being paid to train horses, you should only have a fairly small number of horses - and with those horses, have them trained to the level that you need them to be.

Leeana, you have 3 horses that have the ability to show. Concentrate on them, and save the money you would be using to buy the perfect show tack and pay for entry fees.

Why pay a horse for ex amount of $$$$ for a show horse when you would only show in open shows?

Are you planning on going to registered shows? That would be the only reason IMO to buy him if you were going to registered shows. I agree with Feather on this one, except for the hardshipping part. Unless you want to go to AMHA shows their is no way you can hardship into AMHR unless the horse was AMHA or ASPC registered. Sorry I couldnt remeber if you want to be more involved with AMHA or AMHR or both.

Sorry probably not what you want to hear but I'm just saying my opinion.

What sort of show was it where this horse won his grand championship? An AMHA or AMHR show? Or "just" a local, open show? To me the answer to that question is important. If the win was at a local open show it doesn't really tell a lot if you're looking at him for A/R shows...

I'd want to see full side photos that show his neck as well as his head in profile before I'd give any critique on him. From this one photo my first impression is that he isn't a horse I'd choose to show either AMHA or AMHR, but that's just my impression from 1 picture, & if I saw more photos of him I might say something different.

I don't know, it seems to me that you buy, and buy, and every time you get a new horse it's exactly what you've always wanted, but then in a week or two you've got something else in mind that is exactly what you've always wanted. It wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to wait until you get your foal out of your new mare, see if that foal is the quality you want to show, and then show it when it's old enough--you don't have to wait until it's 2 or 3, you can show it as a yearling and have fun with it--and in the meantime you can keep showing your other horses at the open shows. Showing them open gives you valuable show ring experience & will make you that much more competitive when you do start showing AMHA or AMHR.

The lady showed only AMHR with him. Which is what i am wanting to do, Coco is fine for the fair's and all ..but i want something that could take me a bit farther. The only horse we plan on getting hardshipped is our stud, but that is for breeding purpose only.

I am kind of thinking about what Minimor said, i might wait untill Angel Foals and see what i get from her.

EVEN BETTER, the foal would be AMHR/WCMHR registered so that would open up the horizons more actually and would be CHEAPER.

I think i will just keep this money for show stuff, like Feather said. Could buy some nice show halters and supplies with it.

Thanks guys for all your opinions

..can i still keep him on my christmas list

, and PRAY. lol

I agree with Jaime.

Leanna, you have enough on your hands. You just keep buying, you (in my opinion) don't have much horse experience, and I do not think you can handle another horse. You have 7 if I remember right, and I do not think it is fair to the others, just buying another, forgetting about training the others just to concentrate on another horse. It is A LOT of money. My four get daily attention, when the weather is good (like right now it is snowing, so I cannot do much) those who drive get driven regularly, the foals get halter lessons, and the two adults get lunged and worked with on their halter and obstacle.

Seriously, Leanna, please think again.

If I were you I would Hardship Coco. You seem to work well together from what you tell us. If you hardship him you could show him in the rated shows. Of course Im saying this not really knowing his conformation & potential. Just my two cents.

He appears to be a decent looking boy. I have one rule, and maybe its something you should consider. If I ever wanna have a new show horse, then I must sell one of my other horses. I bought a new appy colt this fall, but in order to do so, I had to sell my show gelding. I raised him up from a foal and he was 4 this year. Yes it was hard, but you have to make the wise choice.

And as for being a professional and owning horses. That has nothign to do with it. I know a few professionals that shouldnt own a single horse. IM not a professional and I currently have 9, with 3 on the way next year. I dont have any problems handleing or training them.

I couldnt think about selling any of them though, thats why i think im just to have to forget about this guy.

Because if i really think about it, we have 1 stall left open and we will need that stall for the foal when it gets weaned.

I am just going to focus on training and working with the others right now. I do think i should really look into getting Coco registered and might check out the AMHA/AMHR sites and wait untill i get ready to breed striker in a couple years to register him.

*Quick Question,

Do you have to register with AMHA to get registered with AMHR?

I'm just going to focus on the other boys right now then, put this guy aside.

Leeana

You must hardship into AMHA before you can hardship into AMHR. In order to hardship your stallion you would have to pay like $1500 (if not more) to hardship him into AMHA and to hardship into AMHR after you pay that for AMHA is $400. I'm trying to help save you some money and not even think about doing that for your stallion especially since he is that old!
