Well, I don't really have a "story", but I did donate my hair when I got it cut off from long to short. I had the hairdresser put it in a braid begore she cut it off and then put an elastic at the end that she cut to keep it all in one piece.

Yes, they required a minimum of 10" and they prefer it to be uncolored/unpermed.

Here is Ashley. We think her hair is long enough, but need to measure it.Do you think it is long enough?Ashley wants to help a person in need if she can.

thanks

I had REALLY long hair at the beginning of the summer and I did cut it to donate. A full 11 inches. The only problem I am having is to remember to buy a padded envelope and send it in

I still have it in a bag in the ponytails ready to go.

I have donated my hair to Locks of Love 3 times since my grandmother passed away from cancer in 2001. When she was sick, she kept talking about loving my hair. She was so scared to lose her hair. I was hoping she would get better and thought everyone in the family could chip in to help have a wig made out of my hair for her, but that wasn't the case. I have donated between 12-13 inches each time. My daughter wants to do Locks of Love, too, but keeps chickening out. She's got hair down to about the middle of her tush now and since she's 8 and still wants mommy to fix it all the time, I am definitely ready for her to get it cut!

No story to tell I donated my hair twice.

Did take some doing finding a salon that actually will send it and not throw it out.

I never had them send mine...I sent it myself to make sure it was going to a good cause and not being sold by a salon for human hair wigs to be sold!

Hey guys,

I am so happy that so many people are bening kind and donating their hair. Like my mother said I am going to donate mine too. I thought it would benefit them more than it would me.

love yall,

!!!ashley!!!

I donated mine 3 or 4 years ago. My young cousin was about 10 at the time and had very long hair. we agreed we'd both cut ours and donate it. We basically had a cutting party and my mom cut both of our hair. mine ended up quite a bit shorter than ihad wanted so i was bummed that way but it all grew back

it's the first time in YEARS that i've cut my hair other than for trims to keep the ends nice. I haven't cut it since although i've given some thought to doing it again.

I have donated to Locks for Love when I was a teen, but since I was recently diagnosed and realized they are for 18 and under only and I couldn't get a wig myself, I chose to donate to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program of trying to get 1 million inches. I was able to donate my hair just before it began falling out.

My chemo will not make me lose my hair, but since I have a brain tumor, the radiation treatments are to my head have made me 3/4 bald. I look like a reversing bald guy, I have a patch of hair directly on top and a trace around my ears and base of my neck, but all the sides and back are gone. I have been told that my hair may take up to six months if ever to come back since the treatment burns the skin. I asked if they could make a wig out of my own hair and they said no, that it takes about six donations to make one. Unless, I pay high dollar to get one custome done and hand tied. I have currently applied for my own wig and am awaiting a response from them.

For now, what hair I do have is buzzed and I wear these super soft crochet hats my grandmother made for me or some scarves. I can't wear hats or toboggans because they are either too tight or too scratchy. My scalp is almost healed enough wear I can and then I could tolerate a wig too, hopefully. It's really strange, I am not quite sure how I feel about wearing one though. I would look more "normal" since I still have my eyebrows and eyelashes too anyways, didn't lose those. So I look strange depending on the weather, why I won't take my hat off once inside or look like a doorag all the time since you can see neck hair.

It did really bother me at first and I still get frustrated at times trying to match clothes or stay comfortable.

Here is a site if ya'll know anyone in the same situation. I have stuff from them and am very pleased with the products.

I've donated 5 times now, last time I did was in honor of my BFs hubby who was dieing of cancer. Each time I have given about 11"s, course it cant be dyed, permed. If you have treated your hair, they will sell what they cannot use to help with costs. So donate away!!! Even if you cant give the recommended amount.

My daughter Abby donated 11 inches in August of 2006 and has just about enough to donate again. My daugher Kyla will be donating this time also.

I think just about every little girl in both of my daughters classes has donated or is growing her hair out to donate! All the salons around here participate in Locks of Love.

My daughter Lindsey just donated her hair to Locks of Love, in honor of bher best friend's mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer and is now losing her hair due to the treatment she is undergoing. She has had long hair her whole life and is having a hard time getting used to it being so short, but whenever she starts to complain, she always ends up by saying "oh well, it was worth it for *'s mom..." (just the show of support meant so much) and it will grow back.

My 14 year old grand-daughter has donated her hair twice now.

I too, have donated twice. I have bright red hair which I have never treated in any way. Both times I went from waist length hair to basically a boys hair cut. Each time, the hair cut place tied it in a tight pony tail in several places, cut it off quite close to the neck line and then proceeded to style what was left! I can't imagine them really wanting red hair, but I donated anyway. You should have heard the gasps from the other ladies at the beauty parlor when I said I wanted it all cut off!! (And then the gasp from hubbie when I returned home without my hair!) LOL

A lady I work with was just telling me today that her daughter (who is 21) had 12" cut off. I'm not exactly sure which organization she tried donating it to, but they told her they didn't want it because she had highlights in it.
