I actually would like any of the choices, except one of them

Wouldn't be interested in a classic, or in a "straight" (I mean non-supernatural type) romance stuff. Anything else sounds fun!

I'm not a Romance reader either Jill...classics I can take or leave but anything else is fine with me. I did vote Mystery though as that is probably my fav.

I like mysteries, too. I'm reading a series of them now and enjoying them a lot. I like all the catagories pretty much equally, except for the one or two mentioned... But the vampire books I have read are mystery / fantasy / horror (stretching it) / romance all at once! It seems like most of the books I enjoy the past few years have elements of all the catagories in them

I'm right there with you ladies. But I know there are a lot of people who like them, along with nonfiction. Don't get me wrong, I can read them and 'occassionally' enjoy them, but they just wouldn't be my first choice. I guess I should have stressed that Fantasy can also include supernatural. And some books could fit into more then one genre (for example Twilight could be romance or fantasy/supernatural). So even if a theme is picked that you may not care for, I'm sure you can squeeze in a recommendation for a book you could enjoy.

I think so, too

It will be fun to be reading the same book and then discuss it.

A lot of times, my mom and I will read the same books (she won't do the paranormal stuff, but we both LOVE southern fiction, books dramatic books with humor, etc.)

When I say I don't like Romance, let me clarify...I loved Water for Elephants and that was a love story...I do not like the ones with Fabio on the cover though...lol.

I just thought of something -- I hope we don't do one that's sad! I cannot do sad books!!! If the book is good, I get too into it and just gives me the blues big time if it has a sad ending. No tear jerkers, please!

I can't handle tear jerkers either right now. I'd rather have Fabio!

I second that Jill! I had to read Where the Red Fern Grows with my sixth grade students last year. It was terrible! Those sad animal stories really get to me, as does most things remotely sad.

My favorites are mysteries, horse dog, whatever and romance. Not a big fan of science fiction or classics. I love to read and winter is coming so will have a lot of time to curl up and read.

Classics are my favorite so I voted for it before I read the comments, sorry ladies. I'm with you on the romance though-LOVE a good love story, but please, please no Fabio covers lol. Other than that, I am open to anything really.

Since most seem to be up for anything except a couple of genres, what if you just do a random drawing to see which genre (other than the unpopular couple) we'll read for which month? It seems most don't want romance and classic (i was the one who voted classic, but i'm ok reading them on my own) so maybe take those two out.

ETA after thinking on it-i think all genres should go into the random drawing to get some of us out of our comfort zones....broaden our horizons, if you will. I know of a couple of classics that aren't as hard to adjust to, like Forever Amber. That's one I bet you'd all like. We could probably find a romance that isn't too bad (lol) too.

OK wait a minute! My computer was down for a week because of Sandy, I just found this lovely place and wanted to vote for more then one, but it only allowed me to vote for my absolute favorite. I also don't like tear jerkers or romance novels, although some of the covers are very lovely to look at. I didn't like 50 shades but I did read the first one simply because all my friends were and wanted to enter the discussion. OH well, winter is coming so maybe I can find some time to read one of my favorite types.

I think this is a great idea. I like the idea of maybe just randomly picking a genre (alternating monthly). That would definately expand people's interests. I personally don't prefer Sci-Fi, but I would be willing to read one for the sake of conversation. I may have negative things to say about the book, but that should make the conversation more interesting. Lol. Don't forget, just because it is a classic...that could include something like the "The Wizard of Oz" or "The Neverending Story". It doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be a long boring novel written in old english.

Any opinions on just randomly picking a genre each month instead of having a poll?

I like the poll idea! It's easy and you get a choice!

(and a month is a great amount of time)

ETA: I'll do this anyway you pick!!

LOL! I just can't wait to start reading and talking about it! LOL!!

Just surprise me, but please no romance! I need a good story line that catches me and won't let me go. Also no sad animal stories as in Bambi or Old Yeller.lol Otherwise I am willing to try anything.

I agree with everyone else here! I read anything. I'm like Jill. I am drawn to the paranormal stuff. I don't like "heavy" reading. Reading is my escape! I also prefer happy endings, too. Life is sad enough without having to live through fictional sadness, too.

So I will be happy to read anything anyone recommends. I've never done a book club thing and I think that will be fun!

Just wanted to remind everyone, there's only one more day to vote! So make sure to check back tomorrow to find out which genre wins. Then we can start submitting book ideas.
