my tiny has been colicking off and on all day. Had a vet out this am to oil her. No reflux all vitals were good. Tried to put a tube up tinys nose the size of a garden hose which i said no to. Well now its night and shes not better. Vet wont came back and refuses to iv her at the farm or oil her again. Finally got a new vet on the phone and hes on the way but hes not hopeful either. In illinois its common practice to oil at least twice and to do an iv bag. Why do they act like im crazy in ohio??? Im about to lose it. shes 4 and has NEVER coliced ever.

Im a huge believer in prayer and good thoughts so maybe you guys could send some our way. I love all my horses but tiny was our first foal ever born and is like a part of me.

Dear Kay...

I'll keep Tiny in my prayers. Keep after the vet. You have a right to have the right treatment.

i honestly think the first vet wont come back because i made her go get a smaller tube. Im so upset. thanks trish

Oh sweetie - I am so sorry - I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you. Yes, same practice here - it is common to oil twice and do an IV. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

: Please keep us posted on how she's doing when you can.

now see i should have asked for prayers this morning. The new vet just left and hes very hopeful. He gave her a banamine shot as he says the paste isnt as effective. He also gave her a brand new colic drug that hes never used before this was given IV. tubed her and took a ton of gas off her tummy. After all that was done he said there was a HUGE improvement in her gut sounds. He really thinks shes going to pass something soon. He said he didnt want to give me false hope but he really thinks by morning shell be much better. If shes not were in big trouble. I couldnt believe how much better she was acting within just a few minutes of the new meds. please keep praying YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST.

I had asked the vet this mornign if the green grass shooting up could be what made her colic and she said no and gave me one of those looks. Well the first thing this vet said was it was probably grass colic caused by all the greeen grass coming up so early. Guess Im not as stupid as the first vet thought. Ginny came and picked up rosie yesterday and could not belive how green our grass is. I know one vet that will never step foot on my farm again

thank you guys for listening and sending ups prayers and good thoughts

Kay

the posative update at the end was refreshing to find. I had been scrolling down the thread with increasing apprehension. Lets hope that moring finds Tiny recovered and you in good spirits. I somehow doubt you will be getting much sleep tonight.

Tiny will be in our thoughts here, I'm so glad you found a Vet that is willing to work with you and listen, we also have a very good Vet who works with us. It's not an Ohio thing Kaykay, it's a human thing
