I'm looking for average price cost of transportation for minis, the furthest distance you've ever had one transported (and that cost), and recommendations for quality (yet affordable) transport.

In my opinion, you cannot beat Sharrway -- http://www.sharrway.com/transport.html . Their rates are very reasonable and they take excellent care of the horses on the road!!!

Well we have never shipped anything in. Only out. And everybody so far that has shipped has used the same one, and many dont like that one. But there is also one that we "tried" to use that everybody likes that I wouldnt recommend for dirt. After many rescheduals then finally just not comeing but not telling us that.

That said, most of the time we get lucky and my aunt has a trip to run and can haul things.

Yep! I was so happy when Ashley told me her Aunt Diane can bring the filly I bought from them. I worry especially with the foals shipping and it is just a relief that she's hauling her herself

I always recommend Worleys Hauling as they are great peope and own minis themselves and they go coast to coast. With the price of fuel these days, I imagine they have all traonsporters have had to go up on their prices.

I second the vote for Sharrway transport

they are also mini owners themselves so they know special needs for minis

we had a mare and filly shipped over 1100 miles to us and they were both healthy, in great spirits and well cared for when they got here.

Very nice and dependable people. They were also very reasonably priced.

We had a bad experience with one we scheduled before this trip so do be careful

It pays to shop. We transport minis all over the US. Our last shipment went to New York. We got quotes that ranged from $900 to $2200 for one mini. I also requested the cost of one additional mini on the same shipment. One was willing to do a 2nd mini for 450 and another wanted an additional 2200. Sometimes you can get a better price if they are trying fill up a transport they already have going that direction. So you can never tell what the quotes are going to be until you ask. Suggest you post on the Mini Horse Connect section in Lil Beginnings. Hitch Hiking Horses Yahoo group is a also a great place to post you transportation requests. Just hope gas prices do not continue to go up or buyers are not going to be willing to pay transportation costs that in some cases are more than the price of the horse.
