The drug being banned here is most likely because the FDA hasn't tested it, or hasn't finished testing it. The FDA is notoriously slow about granting approval, and highly suspicious of anyone else's research. They are also very resistant to using an approved drug for a different application. So just because it isn't FDA approved doesn't mean it isn't safe (nor does their approval mean it is!!How horrible, and preventable from the sounds of it. Hmmm, wonder why the drug is banned here? Why would people feel the need to do this to otherwise healthy and fit horses? I just dont get it sometimes. I guess the same reason some of the human athletes feel the need to use steroids...
Thanks for the update, so sad, just hope they find what was the cause for sureHere's the onearticle I've come across, where the team captains says Biodyl was given to all the horses that died.Biodyl
And a newer article, describing the pulmonary edema the horses suffered, and the way in which Biodyl could possibly have caused the problem: Pulmonary edema in polo ponies
Yes, got the update also ..Thanks chandab .... oh so so sad.I got an update from TheHorse.com and the article said that a pharmacy incorrectly prepared the supplement; one ingredient was incorrect (sounds like the measurement for it), but they wouldn't say the ingredient. http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=14032 Its being further investigated.
