We may be the last people on the planet to not have high speed, but we finally got it yesterday afternoon!

I'm not sure how I lived this long without it.

It took some doing and some serious b!tching to get it - it involved a lying installation man who said he couldn't get a signal, when in reality, he didn't even know the tower we could hit existed. Imagine his surprise when we made him come out a second time and he got a signal at 100% strength! Hahahahaha! Funny how you can get a signal from a tower when you know it exists.

Anyway, yay for high speed!

Not the last people,,,,,,,,,,

We still can not get it,,,,,,,,and we only live 7 miles from the main town, 1 mile from the main Interstate.

I think we will be dial up forever.

If you have a phone line, you should be able to get DSL

It's not cable but still blows dial up out of the water and your phone can still be used

nope, unfortunately even if you have a phone line you can;t always get dsl. For phone lines to carry DSL they have to be of the proper type and have some sort of special equipment at the stations they cross through. Huge areas of rural America have no option but to have dial up or satellite internet. You would be shocked to know the number of areas that can't get it. In fact our phone lines where i live are not only not dsl capable, but we can not even get 56k dial up. We are lucky to connect at around 26.4k if we have to dial up.

I guess that is just the price we pay for living way out in the middle of nowhere. We got satellite internet last year and while it is not perfect and it costs too much it is a huge improvement over dial up. My husband (who works in the telecommunications industry as a network engineer maintaining the network that monitors the equipment that actually allows the use of DSL) has to have it in order to work when he is on call, and it also allows him to work from home occasionally. The gas money we save for him not having to drive into work when ever the system goes down more then pays for the satellite internet, otherwise I'd still be surfing at cave man speeds over pitiful dial up.

Lucky you :aktion033:

I hope you post in a week or so and tell us how you really like it

We only have "Comcast" here...which is pricey.

And I was told "High Speed" internet only works as fast as your computer capabilities?

Our puter "Sucks"

Lucky you, we still don't have it but sure get tempted to order it at times. I keep telling myself I don't need the extra costs and I need to be on the computer less than more....yea, keep talking myself out of it.

I am so happy for you!

I know how you feel. All we can have is satellite as our phone lines are too outdated and we are too rural to think it will be changed anytime soon, so dialup at 14.4 kbp or Satellite (Direcway/Hughes...bleah) is our only option. I have satellite and I would go NUTS without it, but it is far from DSL or Cable.

Enjoy!!!!

Wow, congrats. We still don't have cable here (probably won't for eons), and the only phone line DSL available is stupidly expensive and only allows FOUR HOURS a WEEK! (you have to be kidding, I work online, and am on 20 hours a DAY) Soooo it takes me forever, but I 'get'er done'. Someday I'll know the joy of high-speed. I keep telling folks I know, imagine how freakin' fast I'd be with high-speed. LOL

That is wonderful Jenn.

Last year we went from dial up and maybe getting 19 kbp,,, to putting the thumb screws on our local phone company and getting DSL. Is worth the extra cost!

Just to let you all know...DSL has not and is not offically offered in our area. However, if you can get the #'s to your phone companies engineers you may be able to finagle a way to get DSL at least to your house.

We are at the max limit from the nearest hub.....

Might suprise people how many people have it in your area.

I got high speed about a month ago. It was three more dollars a month than dial up. I don't notice great difference except in downloading. I also love not tying up the phone line!
