I have this pintaloosa mare, 6 yrs old, and I am not sure what patterns she has. In her woolies I was thinking she is bay near lep, or snow flake with a spotted blanket. I shaved her and she id def a bay, but I am leaning towards snowflake with spotted blanket. She has a big wide blaze and 2 blue eyes.

The roan could be coming from sabino (pinto pattern) or she could also be varnish appaloosa causung the roan.

IMO, she's a bay spotted blanket varnish roan, and probably splash with the bald face.. Pretty girl!

Really Varnish roan? I never thought of that. She is such a sweet girl

bay with a spotted blanket and varnish , she looks to have sp;lash too ( splash with the bald face / blue eyes and socks) she is very pretty

Yes, agree with all that, varnish is what causes "snowflake" which is transitory, like Grey going white- snowflake is just a pattern that occurs on it's way through to recognisable varnish. Pretty while it lasts, though.

So she will get progressively lighter? Will she keep the blanket area spots?

Yes, she will keep the spots, but the blanket white won;t be so obvious as the varnish gets more widespread making her appear lighter, so less copntrast to the blanket white.

Well I am fascinated! Do Varnish roans eventually go completely white like Grays, or will she maintain some color?.
