Now that the weather has dropped (about 20 degrees over the past week) and it has been damp and overcast, the joints are stiff (on me and my horse!). What is your favorite suppliment that has given you results when it comes to joint lubrication? For your horse of course, I'll just take a an aleve for myself! LOL.

Thanks for asking the question for me

I was going to ask that too. I'd be interesting in something for myself and my ol' boy.

I just recieved my order from Country supply. I compared several labels and Aniflex GL product by AniMed had a higher amount of Glucosamine, Hyaluronic Acid, MSM and other vitatims and stuff too per dose.

I haven't started it yet but hopefully it will be a good one for my QH but don't think I can take it - but then maybe I should then I'd know if it does help, lol. EWW! Just smelled it - hope Boone will eat it mixed with his grain - I certainly won't be trying it.

Thanks for the good thread I'll be watching for more helpful ideas.

I use Activex. It has worked wonders for my daughters QH. He used to have shots and since he has been on this stuff he hasn't needed the shots for years. I haven't tried anything else. If this is working I don't want to mess with screwing something up.

I have tried Activ Flex 4000 a liquid that smells like pineapple, it seemed to work well for my old standardbred, but a couple months ago i picked up Animeds Flex GL powder and I really like it, I just got another 2 1/2 lbs. It has yucca as well as glucosamine and MSM, Hyaluronic acid. My friend is trying it on her dog(off label use) and she swears he was playing with her other dogs for the first time in years.

I take MSM and Glucosamine my self and believe it works.

Amy,

GLad to hear a postive review of aniflex GL. :aktion033:

Thank you :aktion033:

I've used Corta-Flex powder for years with no complaints, its always done very well for me. I've recently started Yucca powder and I like that too.

My miniatures legs making a popping sound sometimes when she first comes out of the stall.

Not always just sometimes. Do you think this would be good for her?

I've been using Mojo Joint, which I bought because it has just about every joint health ingredient I've seen on the shelves... Not sure that's a good way to shop in general, but it seems to work quite well. My 20-year-old mare kicks up her heels pretty well after a couple of weeks on it. However, I'm wondering if it might upset her touchy stomach, so I'm taking a break from it and will reintroduce later to see if that's what caused her belly rumbles.

I've been taking hyaluronic acid (for humans) and that seems to work pretty well too...

Anybody tried Cetyl M?

I really like Next Level, I've used both the liquid and the pelleted form. Really helped my mini mare who had a stifle injury when she was younger and gets stiff when it's cold. I keep her on it year round. I give her 1/4 oz in the evening (1/2 oz loading dose for 10 days first). The flavorings are good too.

My old stallion - Vegas - is now 26 years old and quite arthritic in his knees. A few years ago we were having great difficulty trimming his feet because he could not bend his knees. So I put him on "Re-Cre-8" - it's a glucosamine w/ chondroitin powder that I add to his feed every day. Made a whale of a difference!

I have a couple of my mares on Max Flex XR it is time released and it seems to working really well on my mare that makes stifle clicking noises. The other mare that was kicked in the shoulder( we assume) it really hasn't really changed anything. I have had mine on it for two months. It is really smells good, and they will eat it alone! I give 1/2 a scoop to the minis. It is $36 dollars a container with a $10 rebate from Farnum. It is cheaper on Jeffers. Hope this helps.

For anyone who uses Corta-Flx pellets--how much do you give them? The scoop is 1 oz--but that's for a 1100 lb horse. One quarter of a scoop seems like such a tiny amount.
karla,

I do use the Corta-Flx pellets, but for my senior half-Arab gelding, they seem to be working well for him, he's much less stiff than he was before.

I have B-size minis, so use 1/3 recommended for the minis (1/3 scoop). Anyway, I had a thought to measure for the minis. Take the 1 oz scoop that comes with product, measure up a scoop of pellets and then use a household tablespoon/ teaspoon to see how much is in the scoop, then you can more easily reduce the amount to mini size (3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon). [i gotta say, that 1 oz scoop doesn't seem like much for my full-size horse, but it does seem to be working for him.]

I chose the pellets as my horses blows the powdery stuff right out of his feed dish, so pelleted supplements mix in better with his pelleted feed (he has good teeth and doesn't care for soaked feed, he will eat 1# soaked beet pulp, that's it); however with minis the liquid or powder may be easier to dose at the right amount (I didn't chose the liquid, as it would probably freeze in winter around here).

We use Springtime Inc. products for ourselves, the horses, and the dogs and have excellent results. The horses are on Joint Health, and we are on the same in their people version. The dogs are on Longevity. Wonderful, natural products that really work great. Plus the whole reason this company began (read Buddha's sotry) tells me they are not just in business for the money, but truly care.

MSM and Glucosamine is the primary powdered supplement we use on our fellow, Gabriel.......

Gabriel is our three-legged fellow. He gets around wonderfully, but because he has to compensate for his amputation, the cold winter months can be harder on him. When we add the MSM Glucosamine combination to his feed, there's an obvious improvement to him!

When this subject came up a few weeks ago someone mentioned that you need hyaluronic acid as an ingredient - so I ordered Equinyl CM with Hyaluronic Acid to use on a three year old mare. No positive results yet but may not have been long enough ...... I had already tried three others - Corta Flx liquid being one of them.

I do think that would work. The horse I have on Corta-Flex and Yucca was 12 when I bought her, She was miss snap crackle pop and the corta-flex helped that. Just recently I've started her on a light dose of yucca as she is 21 now and needed a little more. I prefer the corta-flex powder only because its more cost efficient and I find it to be easier to measure.

I would give minis 1/3 scoop
