Since the weather is turning cooler here I thought it would be fun to see what other members favourite cold weather dishes are. I have a yearning for stews and casseroles in the cold weather. This morning I put some oxtails in the slow cooker with onion, garlic, worcestershire sauce, carrots, potatoes and barley. It smells so good right now and it will taste good in about 1/2 hour :bgrin What does everybody else like?

That's it, I'm coming to your house! What time is dinner? Seriously, this is exactly what I would answer and reading it made me drool a little bit.

well it is the tail of a beef cow so it needs long slow cooking but it is yummy. Then you throw in whatever you normally put in a stew, in my case it was onions, garlic, tin of tomatoes, barley, carrots, potatoes, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. I use a mennonite recipe.

ohhhh my I can honestly say that I've never heard of that. I'll have to take your word that it is yummy

A pot of pinto beans seasoned with ham, lots of onion & jalapeno peppers simmered until thickened. Serve with turnip/mustard greens & what makes it special - my moist, cheesey mexican cornbread........ Ice tea with lemon................. For dessert, apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

French onion soup... and carmelize the onions for an hour stirring constantly... it's worth it.

I make a vegetarian version that you'd never know was any different than "usual."

One of my cold weather favorites is my MIL's knephela soup (there are so many spellings, I'm not sure I got it right: nefela, knefela, nephela and more). Its a potato dumpling soup, I believe its Norwegian, but not positive.

I like to make stew and chili in the crock pot, pot roast in the crock pot, homemade chicken soup, beef and noodles.
