I accept that Appaloosas are a breed not just a pattern (not colour, by the way, pattern) BUT I have to restate that, whateversome Appaloosa people wish to believe,(there are a number of Appaloosa people with open minds on ECF) ALL face and leg white, and very probably blue eyes, do indeed come from minimal expression of a pinto gene- it is not a matter of what we believe and I would seriously suggest anyone with a blue eyed blaze faced appy, whatever size, should test for LWO BEFORE breeding to another appy with the same so called "normal" white markings- I see no reason why a foal should pay with it's life for your "beliefs", after all.

Read love caspars post again, very slowly, it is spot on.

As said it is a given not a "belief"

Actually, I had not thought there were still people around that did not understand this very basic fact, but there you go!!

And YES all breeds that have white markings have Pinto (not "Paint") lurking in them- do a Google on Pinto Arabs and Pinto TBs- you can bring Pinto out in any breed that has white markings, all you have to do is breed FOR it instead of against it!!

I have a bay blanket appy stud, and he as well have 2 blue eyes, and white going down his face. He also has 2 white socks on his back legs. He doesnt have a pink snip, but his nose is pinkish when the sun is out. Does that mean he is part paint?

well "part paint" doesn't really describe this accurately, as that sort of implies he's part APHA, which i assure he's not. but if he is bay (non dilute) with blue eyes and white on the face, yes he most definately carries pinto gene(s). you mentioned he's a stud, so TEST HIM FOR LWO before breeding! i'd be willing to bet he carries it.

He is very cute, but some people look at him then look away. He was attacked over a year ago by 3 Great Danes, and then in the process of healing his false nostrils collapsed. So he had to have surgery again. And because of this, he sounds like he is snoring 24/7, and it made his bite go off. But before everything happened, he was a handsome guy. I did already breed him to my appy bred mare, and I am totally excited about this cross. I just hope that when IF I sell the baby and people see him, they dont get discouraged, because of his scars and now his bite. What do you think?

I'm sure that you'll be able to find someone that will love the baby, & his sire even if his sire doesn't look as nice as he did, very sorry about him being attacked

Ok i'm not trying to be a snot here..BUT at the risk of sounding it....

people need to relise there is a DIFFERENCE between a PINTO and a PAINT. A PINTO = a horse with white spots (or white on the body other than legs and face). a paint horse IS a pinto...

and a PAINT = a QH offspring or a offspring of QH decent with too much body white (or can be breeding stock of course). the PAINT horse registry was founded because of QH offspring that had too much white on their body and were not allowed to be registered/bred...therefor they had to form a registry for these offspring if they wanted to continue to register/breed/show them ect. Not just any Pinto horse can be registered as a paint it must be of QH decent ONLY.

Now to call/refer to ALL pinto's as "paints" is a complete slip up and if you want to be taken seriously or be understood correctly when discussing pintos/paints ect..you need to make sure to use the terms CORRECTLY.

Unless things have changed since I've been out of big horses, TBs are allowed to be registered as Paints too. Other than that, right on!!

yes your right TB's are allowed to be registered (not really a paint person..but do know the basics) but OVERALL not EVERY breed is a paint...
