Does anyone have any exciting trips or visits planned? Fun family traditions?

I love this holiday. It is so cozy and chaotic and fattening and happy.

Here's our plan:

I'll be at mom & dad's all day tomorrow chopping, prepping and baking. My two oldest nieces (19 & 22) AND THEIR BOYFRIENDS

fly in Thursday morning from California. I think I may have at least one wedding announcement to make next week.

We'll eat all weekend long, watch football, play board games (I just bought Farmopoly and my mom is looking for Apples to Apples) and of course the boyfriends will have to come out here for a farm/tractor/tool tour and I imagine Darrin will take them out behind the barn for the 'what are your intentions' talk. My nieces have both the boys believing that we are the 'nutty ones with all the pets'. I guess that's more true than not.

We'll also be taking family pictures of course. My mom actually sent me to the hairdresser to get my hair cut (6 inches!) and the grey dyed (once a year whether I want to or not). I actually told my mom that because of the way the greying gene works, I must have at least one grey parent. She didn't get it.

So I'm coiffed, hungry and ready to go!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! to all my wonderful little horse and pony friends/family. Stay safe and be joyful!

Well we will be down here in our foggy valley

I am cooking a turkey and a bunch of other stuff.....there is enough food to feed about 20 but there will only be the 4 of us.......we are finishing fence on a pasture so with luck the mini's and sheep will have a nice big 2 acres of standing pasture/weeds to start mowing down

hubby's idea that they should get thanksgiving too......other than that we will just be hanging out and eating wayy too much........actually our families will be calling throughout the day as well or we will be calling them.......

I have a question for all you Americans
biggrin.gif
What day do you actually celebrate Thanksgiving? Is Thursday the day you have Turkey dinner, or does it happen on one of the weekend days?

Yep, Thursday is Turkey Day here

. We don't go out of town or anything for Thanksgiving. We usually just spend a nice day at home, have a big dinner, and generally be thankful for the blessings we receive everyday.

I am cooking. I love to cook and love big family dinners so I put on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and all Birthdays all year long. Just my thing! LOL I am a cooking fool and am looking at a way to open up a little restaurant maybe.

I went today and got all the last minute items for the big dinner! But our turkeys around here are all small this year and I hate that. I love lots of left overs and we just will not have as much this year

On a bad note, my Mother In Law and I fight over this holiday ever single year and I am always on her bad side at this time of year. She wants Thanksgiving at her house but I have always had it at mine and that is how I want our Thanksgiving, so, every year until just before Christmas we will be at odds. Too bad too, I don't like it like that.

Yep, always the last Thursday of November......strange that it hasn't been changed to a Monday by the government by now!

OUR plans??? I'm afraid WE are the "home base" for three families this year! So it looks like about 15 people for dinner......

Boy have we got a tradition.

We begin our celebration on Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve. That's when Dan cleans out the turkey, the kid just loves guts. I'll make the stuffing and begin baking some goodies and slap Michael's hands, "get out of here" because he sticks his fingers into everything.

I'll be serving up junk food Wednesday night. Just platters of stuff to nibble on, orderves, etc. buffalo wings, all that stuff.

Thanksgiving morning after I do barn chores, I'll put the turkey in the oven and begin to watch the Macy's Day parade. That's the rule. Everyone has to dress up nicely and watch it with me wether they want to or not. Jerry will be looking for the Rockettes of course. Why? I can't imagine. I"ll be loving the bands and all the performers. .

At the end of the parade, that's when the REAL SANTA arrives. The real one, from the North Pole. That's him, there in the parade, at the end. And then that's when I announce to everyone "doesn't he look wonderful this year?" And everyone has to reply "yes mother". if they plan on eating........and agree with me. By that time, Jerry will have fallen half asleep and just nod. Then I cry and bawl my brains out because, well just because I'm a holiday mush. Then Jerry will tell me to "dry it up now girl" and I will. I'm like my mother, she cried happy tears all the time.

Then, we HAVE to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" all three versions will run on video all day long. Jerry's favorite. He started that one.

Then here comes the company. I'll serve drinks and orderves and then the boys will take over serving while I get back to the kitchen.

Jerry carves the turkey and after everyone eats, and after dinner, I make a pot of coffee for pie, or cake for desert. Then it's over. Everyone lays back and feels bloated and says they ate too much and naps.

I change my clothes and head back out to the barn.

Long, long, day.

I'm going down to runamuck's foggy valley to spend the holiday with my sister, her husband, and my 4 month old nephew. They live in Nampa. Let's see, I think it's been 2 1/2 weeks since I saw little Tom. Since then, I know he has learned to roll over, and I can't wait to see that.
biggrin.gif
It should be interesting since Susan and I have never prepared Thanksgiving dinner together before. Friday we will do some shopping. (I don't go very often since I live 2 1/2 - 3 hours away from any major shopping centers/Walmarts)

We're doing Thanksgiving at my house. Just 5 of us.....my husband, my parent's and their "adopted" daughter Kathi(wcr). We stuff ourselves and then play cards! Kathi had better bring her own quarters this time cause I'm not letting her win on borrowed ones again!

Well, family is all about three hours away - half in Milwaukee erea - half in the Baraboo erea. Years ago the holidays were fun, fun, even had turkey day at my place. Now a days I have a non traditional hubby - hunting is the name of the game. Mom- who is my one relative that does live close by - ( 20 mi. ) prefurs to go out to eat. WHATS UP WITH THAT??! ( Gee - maybe I am not such a good cook after all!
sad.gif
) So - any hoo - it will be me, me and me all day. After hunting - then hubby and step daughter will come home and we will eat...Yup - feeling a tad sorry for my self here - only human.
wacko.gif
Any way - happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Harvey and I are doing "the usual" for us.

We are going to my parents', who live about 50 miles away, for brunch. Then we are going from there to his parents' (about 15 miles from my folks') to eat some more. Then home to take a nap I bet!!!!

This is bad but I'm going to be so pre-occupied about wanting to get home and see the new horses again, I am sure!

Hey Marty can I come on over, your place sounds like its going to be a blast! I am going to pick up another pizza today and reheat that for dinner tomorrow and that is the highlight of my Turkey Day! No family around, DH is out of town (he does all the cooking) so I will spend the day in the barn with my fuzzy little yak friends.

Yeah Marty! You know how to do it right!

This year I am on strike, I always miss the parades because that is the panic day when SUPRIZE! OMG! Christmas tree season starts Friday. Every year a suprize. Funny how that just sneaks up last minute!

So, the roomies can go out and spend the day working and working to get ready for trees. I am going to read the paper and all the sale ads and watch parades, then pack up and head to my brother's house to pig out.

Oh, one horsey thing. I have to get one of my mares cleaned up and ready to leave as she has been sold to France and is to be picked up on turkey day.

OHHHH yes, the holidays are about to begin. I love this time of year. The next month is going to be just a blast.

I plan on waking up at the crack of dawn and doing the barn chores. Then im going to come inside and watch the parade as usual. Then shower and smell the nice turkey in the oven which is just ....ahhhhh. Then were eating here (we just got a small turkey and small side dishes because were going to the big party after we eat here, tradition). Well then around 1:00 we go down to my brothers house which is where the fun starts. The guys head off to watch the football game, play pool AND us ladies talk in the kitchen about ladylike stuff. Then we all gather around the kitchen and say this prayer that was passed down. We then eat and lay back on the couch and talk.

Usuaully we would stay there untill around 6:00 or 7:00 but i have to leave around 3:00 because i get to dress up the boys as turkeys and take pictures ......They have been warned!.

Then i watch CHARLIE BROWN on tv (not sure what time it comes on this year, so i have to watch for the commercial).

Also since this is Lexus's first ThanksGiving ...plenty of pictures are to be expected for her infront of a 'my first thanksgiving' sign. Then of course check out LilBeginnings to see how everyone is doing.

OHHHHH i can smell the turkey now.

The same as every year, I make the turkey dinner for just me & hubby. I'll spend most of the day outside loving on the horses and maybe trimming hooves.

Our families are in CA and we live in OK.

Denise,

You can come over to my place. I always have tons of food and lots of room for friends!

I am not that far away.

Just staying home....

More peaceful that way.

Only part of hubby's family is around here. His family is nice.. but the marry in's with one of his brothers aren't.

Most all my Family is on the East Coast.

I have to work, so does hubby. We had our Thanksgiving yesterday. All our family is out of state, so it was just me, hubby, and a friend from hubby's work. I have to work ALL holidays...Christmas, New Years Day, all of them, so does hubby. Only good thing...double time, it's about $90.00 and hour, that really helps with Christmas just around the corner.

I am making a turkey at work today though. There will only be 4 of us working. Me and 3 men - the men are bringing all the side dishes. At hubby's work, they are making chili. I would of rather done something different than turkey today, since we had it yesterday, but all the guys wanted turkey again.
