Ok guys give them up. I wanna make something to add to dinner this year. Mom normally makes the turkey, corn, potatos and sometimes stuffing. I was looking to add something for something different.

So tell me those recipes.

I love ham roll-ups.

sandwich sliced ham

cream cheese

green onion

roll it into a log and cut 1/4" slices

YUM

spiced, maple-glazed nuts.

Yummmmm

Kinda spendy to make, but you can make a smaller batch and it makes the house smell so good.

Take a mix of walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts (remove the husks), and pecans (about a half cup of ea.)

and pour over them a half cup of maple syrup, also a quarter cup of olive oil and sprinkle with a half tsp. of salt, a sprinkle of cayenne (to your taste, I leave it out sometimes, but it really is better w/it), then a half tsp. sage, marjoram, rosemary, oregano and mix it all up really good.

Put the oven on 300 and pour the nuts on a flat baking sheet in a single layer.

Bake them for about a half hour, stirring them occasionally and checking them. When cut open, they will be slightly golden brown inside when done.

When I was a little child, my mom made this and we had it at every holiday dinner. I have continued it as my boys grew up and now my youngest son is doing it with his family. And its so easy

a couple cans of fruit cocktail, and some cool whip. Makes a fruit salad and you can add what ever you like to buff it up, mandrin oranges, bananas, walnuts.marshmellows, coconut,

Just drain the fruit and add the coolwhip.

Some favorites that my family insists that I make include ===

The Raw Cranberries with an Orange and a cup of sugar purreed together for a fresh cranberry relish.

Turkey Stuffing made with cubed bread, butter, spices, sauted onion & celery, and chopped nuts.

For a salad - Canned pitted cherries, stuffed with cream cheese and sprinkled with the canning syrup on top on a bed of lettuce.

Hi Ashley,

I can think of one recipe off the top of my head that we always have with our turkey dinner. It sounds alot like liltnt's recipe but a little different. It seems to go well with a turkey dinner, not sickenly sweet or anything but yet little kids seem to like it too as well as adults.

5 cup Fruit Salad

1 cup canned pineapple chunks(juice drained)

1 cup canned mandarin oranges( juice drained off)

1 cup mini marshmellows

1 cup shredded coconut

1 cup chopped walnuts

6 to 8 ounces of Cool Whip Lite

Combine pineapple, oranges, coconut, marshmellows and walnuts in a large bowl and stir it up gently by hand. Fold in enough cool whip to make a fluffy lite but yet completely coated salad and mixed well by hand with a spatula. The cool whip measuring isn't an exact science, you make it the consistancy you like. Sometimes the ingredents are dry and it takes more, other times less. Chill this salad for at least a couple hours till cold or can be made the night before your meal.

I have a few other recipes I really like that my grandma made for years and my mom has made some good ones too. Let me try to dig a few up and get back to you later. What are you looking for? Desserts, salads, veggies???

Homemade cranberry sauce!

Fresh cranberries, 2 cups or so (we get them in a bag and use the whole bag)

water or orange juice, enough to cover berries (I prefer orange juice)

Sugar to taste

Boil the berries in the liquid until the skins break open and stir well. If you likeit smooth you can then puree it, I like mine chunky with pieces of peel so I leave it as is. You can add more sugar to it while it is warm if you need to.

A variation:

Add a couple of peeled sliced apples when cooking and cook till the apples are soft. When I do it this way I use water in place of the orange juice.

And I also like apple crisp!

Slice apples and toss with butter, sugar and cinnimon. Arrange in bottom of pie pan or cassaroll dish.

Topping:

Equal parts butter, flour, brown sugar, and rolled oats. (how much depends on size of dish you use)

about a tablespoon or so of cinnimon.

Mix till crumbly and top the apple mixture.

Bake at 375 until topping is golden brown and crunchy.

You can add cranberries, blueberries, etc to your apple crisp also!

My family loves this one!!!!

Spectacular Squash

1 lb. yellow crookneck squash

Gently spoon mixture into stuffing in dish top with remaining stuffing. Bake for 350 until stuffing begins to turn brown and it starts to bubble. about 30 min. serves 6 - 8

I have a slightly different 5 cup fruit salad that is a staple at all holidays around our house.

5 cup fruit salad

1 cup canned chunk pineapple (tidbits work too) - drained

1 cup canned mandarine oranges - drained

1 cup marshmallows

1 cup coconut

1 cup sour cream

Fold ingredients together, chill and serve. MMMMmmmm! (now I made myself hungry for it).

Well I know 2 of them are out.

Squash because my mom is the only one that eats it, but she is a humane garbage can and eats anything. She yells at me every year as my eyes are way bigger then my stomech, but I get away with it, cause if I dont eat it she will, and of coarse she eats the grand kids as well as she was raised not to wast.

Cranberries. Ick, but my brother can eat them all himself. He of coarse is the only one that eats them.

Here is a fruit salad my hubby really likes. He never did like the fruit salads with marshmallows in it but this is his favorite.

2 cup chopped apples such as galas

2cups halved purple seedless grapes

2 cups chopped fresh pears.

1 cup fresh pineapple tidbits or canned will do

1 jar marshmallow creme

1 pkg cream cheese

Combine marshmallow creme and cream cheese and stir until nice and smooth and then add to the fruit. Yummy

Here's one my great grandmother handed down to my grandmother and then to my mother and me.

3-4plump sweet potatoes

stick of butter softened

half cup peanut butter

2Tbsp vanilla

pinch a salt

Tbsp suger

Cook sweetpotatoes and peel, put all indg in a mixing bowl and cream like creamed potatoes. Add 1 cup black walnuts and mix in well. turn out in a greased 13 by 9 baking dish top with marshmellows and bake 350 until marshmellows brown. Can be made before hand and heated up in oven befor topping with marsh mellows. We have had this every major celebration since before I can remember It's an old family dish and I'm the only one whos's alive who knows how to make it, guess I should be passing it on soon.

1. Bottle of Merlot

2. Jello Salad (Mom wasn't the best cook, so I enjoyed this most)

In a "big" bowl, make your choice of Jello flavor as usual.

When it gets "jelly-like", then get out a small container of Cool Whip.

Mix Jello and Cool Whip in the bowl and toss (covered) in the frig until serving.

Because my husband is Swiss and hasn't acquired a taste for American cooking, Thanksgiving dinner is a delicate issue in our household. Our son was born in Switzerland, but is 100% American in his food preference.

Last year, David (son) and I made all the fixins for a turkey dinner (we have no family in the area, so it's the three of us enjoying the day in our jammies). Lo and behold, my husband skated out to a friend's house because they had better food. As "father" sheepishly returned from "his" Thanksgiving, David matter-of-factly said "This is America and Thanksgiving is special holiday that you spend with YOUR FAMILY. You're not in Switzerland, and next year you should be with your family".

Out of the mouths of babes!

Holiday Stuffing

Take a regular Box O' Stuffing

Add amount of liquid directed, but make 1/2 of it chicken brother, and 1/2 orange juice.

Sautee in butter onions, water chestnuts, celery if you choose, etc..

Add bite sized apple chunks and rasins, then cook!

If you stuff the turkey with some of the holiday stuffing and fruit, after the bird is cooked the juices make a great fruit gravy.

Here is a Turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a

stuffing - imagine that! When I found this recipe, I thought it was

perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when

poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

BAKED STUFFED TURKEY

10-13 lb. Turkey

1 cup melted butter

1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)

1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHERS LOW FAT)

Salt/pepper to taste.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush Turkey well with melted butter,

salt and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan

with the neck end toward the back of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds.

When the Turkey's a** blows the oven door open and the turkey flies across

the room, it is done.

And you thought I couldn't cook.

Cover with another layer of graham crackers

Cook the 2 packages of vanilla pudding. Pour on top of the graham crackers and chocolate pudding. Refrigerate til cool.

Whip the heavy cream. Add sugar to taste. Spread on top of the pudding.

This is better if done the day before.
